Default Charging AAA bateries

I have some Intellect 750 Mah batteries that I would like to charge using my CTX Cell Master... however, when I connect the 4 cells, their voltage shows up as 0.9xx V and the unit won't let me charge... when I measure the voltage with a DMM, it comes out as 4V...

Any help greatly appreciated.
