I'd wait for the new car. Along with being a futher development of the original, it should be easier to work on and lipo friendly. But, you can get the originals used, in great shape pretty cheap now.

No conversion kits and it is slated, at least at this point, to be out later this month. The date on the dealer side of Horizon still says March 20.

Are we expecting this car to be fine on asphalt as well? I'm thinking about picking up two so I've got one to run some mod outside once it warms up. What's the story on a spool, will I need to make one from a diff?

the story is that the car should work fine on asphalt if setup accordingly. the jrxs works great on asphalt, so i'm assuming the -r will be a bit better.

the spool... basically it builds just like a regular diff, but in place of diff balls there are two plastic rings that key into the pulley. once the diff is tightened down, the friction of the rings on the pads keeps it locked except on a hard impact where there is a little give. i'm running it in my jrxs and it works just like it's supposed to. locked tight under normal driving, prevents drivetrain damage on impact.

in fact, i've been running that same spool since the nats last summer. i haven't even needed to replace outdrives yet.

Cool, thanks for the info. Hopefully the car shows up before the asphalt thaws out! :-)

My strong feeling is that Todd should tell Brant first...
