Before I sold all of my r/c equipment I owned the M8. It's a great radio with a ton of features. I bought it when it first came out and had no regrets.
However, in my return to R/C, I decided that I didn't want to sink as much money in to this hobby as I previously had. This time I bought the Airtronics MX-3. It has many (if not all) of the settings that are typically used on a high end radio. It has the same receiver as the one included on the M8. And it has 5 model memory (I only had 3 cars at any one time). The best part is that it only cost me $82 with Rx and one servo.
The M8 was great, but of the dozen or so settings, "I" only used a few. It definetly has a cool look, and it's a high quality unit, but I don't think that it made me a faster on the track.
I have found that I don't need any more than 2 sets of crystals where I race. So I've not thought about the Novak device.
Since it's still winter here, I haven't had an opportunity to run my car with the MX-3 yet, but I did do some distance testing and it worked equally as well as my M8.
There's an article on this radio in the February '03 issue of RCCA (Radio Control Car Action).
Just another perspective.

Well, even M8 has so many different version came out recently.
Limited Edition (Basic unit with Backlight)
SS (High Response without backlight)
V3 (Backlight and high response)
There are way too many. Ever since Mars and Futaba came out the high response, everyone has to join the bandwagon. Even R-1 Limited is high response, everything is high response.

Regardless to what you decide to get make sure that it has all the features that you are looking for.
I heard that Airtronics was coming out with another version of the M8 and I said to myself, why. They have probably the best radio, IMO, on the market and great customer service. Yes, there are features on the M8 that you may not need, now but when and if you do you have them and wont have to sink another $100 or more into a radio.
Get the M8 You wont be disappointed

warlord,
here's my 2cents worth...
Started with a Hitec Linx...then a Hitec 3D Spectra...Then a Multiplex Profi 403....Then a KoPropo Mars. I ended up staying with the Multiplex because it has all the functions that 99.9 of us will ever use, It's light and comfortable in my hand and easy to make setting changes. Personally, if you haven't seen or had one in your hands...TRY IT. Screw the hype!! As far as M8's,3PK's or anything else........Don't buy until YOU have had one in your hands . Take a look at the manual or ask the seller or a local to show you the basics of setting it. Then buy what YOU like.....not what everybody else likes. Good Luck

I agree with buying what i like its just nobody sells any high end radios around here. I get everything online. Thats why i post this stuff cause this forum has helped me alot with everything. Looks like i'm gonna have to make a few trips to n.o. to hopefully find some hobby shops that carry these radios and get a feel for then. Thanks for all the help

Is there a club around?? Don't be afraid to ask other racers if you can fondle their stuff Most folks won't mind you looking at their setups.
