I had the novak 4.5 in the xray t2r with molded diffs, they're ok, except for what I would call a defective ball, not a design defect.

I bet they'll handle brushed 19/stock loads for a long time between rebuilds.

I have done some searching and so far have turned up nothing. Has anyone come across a set-up for the T2R that would work with foam/carpet/stock. We are looking for a budget starter chassis for our local crowd, that one could easily upgrade to the full spec racer later.

Do you mean setup like the foam starting setup included in the kit, or the foam setups for the t2 on teamxray.com, or something else? I would expect those to be very close, assuming you get the fr/rr standoffs not included in the t2r kit.

It's cool that X-ray has included a starting set-up for the T2R in the kit. I didn't know that, not owning one for myself. It's sad that all the necessary parts aren't included in the kit for racing on carpet/foam.

I am more or less wondering if there is anyone here that has tried these set-ups, or various set-ups that worked well with this chassis on carpet/foam/stock. I am looking for a chassis that a new driver could actually learn on, and not destroy it trying to get it around the track.

I dunno what you are referring to the only necessary parts for carpet that are not included in the kit is the wheels, tires and body.

also this chassis can EASILY be tuned for carpet and the chassis seems indestructable I hear of very few t2 and t2r owners complaining about broken parts..

This is the perfect car for a newb...

My only complaint is all of the tiny peices compared to other cars I have built like a tc3....

The t2r comes with a great manual to teach you how to set the car up.

As for durability, it's the best. granted mine has a BMI chassis but the suspension, and diffs are very durable. I raced it last night and almost got ran into a wall so i tried to avoid getting hit into a wall (the guy i was racing with was a jerk and tried to ram me into a wall) and ended up cartwheeling down a third of the straight away with considerable speed and not one thing broke.

Almost forgot, the only thing that the T2R kit dosent come with is the aluminum stand-offs that the regular T2 comes with. these are a must for carpet racing, especially with the fiberglass chassis.

The stand-offs are the missing parts that I was referring to as missing.

As for the BMI chassis, while Jason makes a stellar product, I am not going to preach that the kit is awesome out of the box for carpet if they must purchase a carbon fiber chassis to make things work. We don't have an asphalt track, yet - maybe next year. So what I am looking for our newBs is a chassis they can definately get by with racing it box stock, until their talent brings them to the limits of the FRP chassis.

I love the durability and the fit and finish of the X-ray product. I still race my FK04 with a BMI 350. I have seen the others, but I have yet to notice the limits the '04 can take me.

Except for the driver and his setup and driving ability, my t2r was keeping up with a t2, with the only optional part being the stand-offs. So, there isn't much if anything needed to get this car fast and competitive for drivers of less than pro-caliber.

BTW, my suggested upgrade path will be to go with the BMI chassis. Quality second to none, imo.

Nobody needs a carbon fiber chassis to run their t2r on carpet.

You do do not need the standoffs/posts to run on carpet.

This chassis can be raced box stock.

I think he is refering to running the car carpet on FOAM tires. Which I agree with him, technically you could run it but because of how soft the chassis is it would be very hard to dial traction out. You'd end up 2 wheeling around every corner as soon as traction came up. The carbon T2 is kind of soft for racing on foam tires, by default that would make the T2R worse.

For rubber though, box stock the car is good and its real easy to get traction with it.
