I'm curious, how does cc claim to have timing advance, if their motor is sensorless?
Also, has anyone ever tried putting a sensor on their motor?- ie: a hall effect, or an optical encoder- and using a microcontroller to manipulate your input?
I was thinking a hall effect sensor with simple velocity linearization would be quite easy, and give better low end speed. However, something more complex, like a high resolution optical encoder, and a more complex program would give you the benefits of mamba's software/power, and the efficiency and total control of a novak sensored.

Low end speed with the Mamba Max is already fine. You can also adjust the throttle curve within the software to tweak it to just your style.

The 5700 is the system to put in most stuff, it is plenty fast for fun, wil give great runtime, and isn't quite as hard on batteries / drivline components.

If I put my mamba 25 on a slop so it rolls backwards (with no throttle input) and then I hit forward throttle the ESC puts the motor into brake mode first until it comes to a stop then accelerates so its got to be doing something

then that would count as sensored wouldnt it? sensors are typically either hall effect'rpm' counter style, optical encoder stepper motor style, or it uses back emf.

Sensored - you mechanicaly monitor the position and speed of the rotor in respect to the windings
Sensorless - you watch the information coming back through the motor wires to ascertain the position of the rotor.
Sensorless, when done right, is better than sensored, when done wrong, is a real mare.

I just oredered the 5700 system for two reasons.
1) It closely mirrors the standard 19T's I run as per RPM...
2) I foudn out the Mamba Maw is Brushed/Brushless so you can practice with the brushless to get your setup dialed....then pop in the brushed for quals and mains.... Until they have a brushless class...
Man what a deal for $212.00 and the ESC is only slightly larger than a spektrum receiver........DIALED.....

Mike Haynes, do you use the Mamba esc in touring (competitively), or are you using a dedicated brushed controller? Have you used the Mamba in brushed mode, and how does it perform as a brushed controller? If I use brushed motors mostly, is it worth getting the Mamba, or sticking with a dedicated brushed esc?

I have not been running the complete setup as it was not legal at most of the big races this year.
I have used the esc in brushed mode, and it feels fine to me. I typically run a QC2 since it is smaller and fits in my 12th scale much better. The speedo will work just fine for brushed, and dosn't get as warm as my lrp, but it is bigger, and you do need to use a different wire setup. For touring car it is great for practice and i have run it for club races when i put a brushed back in after practicing BL....seems the 4600 geared rather hard runs very similar to a good 19 turn. I usually use the 5700 to practice mod, its feels similar to an 8-9 turn so it is plenty. The 7700 is a bit much for most indoor tracks.
If you want versatility and have a touring car, you can't go wrong. It would not be the best idea for 12th scale though.

Mike, can the Mamba Max 4600, properly and reasonably (i.e. gears available and fit in a TC chassis) geared, keep up with low turn brushed motors and other brushless setups that one might go up against in mod?
It says 4600 in my sig, but it's on backorder and can be changed.

If you want a raceworthy mod equivelent, get the 5700...if you want ballistic speed ala Novak 3.5 ish, you will want the 7700.

Thanks Mike. I was looking to replace the QC2 with something that is easy to program with the idea of trying different things that the CC esc offers. I think I will look somewhere else, as I do primarily stock in on-road. However, for off road I may have to keep an eye on this system. Thanks, tim.

I have a Novak 5.5R and I was deciding whether to buy the 5700 or the 7700. Is the 5700 similar to the 5.5R and is it faster?
