I will agree on the motors, I will also agree on it takes "mad" skills to run mod..But running Mod also puts a strain on everything else, Tire wear is Double, When you do hit something (Remember we don't all have the skills) You break a lot more parts, Car maintenance is now more of an issue, Most tracks have about 3 or 4 guys that really should run mod. But in the end I look at it like this it's all about being in the comfort zone. After all for most of us this is just a hobby a diversion from life..For some it's a job..

Mod with a crappy car is HARD. Mod with a good car is a blast and with the exception of diff rebuilds and tires wearing out a littlw quicker-I dont see it as being much worse than stock.

I also strongly believe that if your a C-E-Main big race stock driver-you can easily be a C-E main Mod driver at a big race. The benefit is if you run a lot of mod and are a good student of the game-I also strongly believe when you go back to stock-you'l be a lot better driver.

Mod isnt as bad as people think. its just different. I love mod and many times I have thought about running mod exclusively.

This is really interesting reading. Some of the newer companies are paying travel for stock racers to win the event so they gain market share and it has worked to some extent. However will it be worth if for them in the future? I like the days of Ray Darroch going out and laying down the smack in stock. He had fun doing it and was very passionate to win. Did Losi ever pay his way to a race? NO. That being said it made the Team Losi cars look awesome. Why? Here was a driver willing to do all he could to go out and win. It was not about the money. It was about the passion. The same thing that fuels him to carry on into the modified division.

There are a lot of stock racers out there continually racing stock year after year. The funny thing is some of the winners of the past can not even make the main anymore. Those individuals would of been better off going into the mod division rather than stay in stock. They may have struggled for a year however they would of learned a lot more about their driving skills.

Well that is my rant.

This is an interesting post which ive followed a lot,as being sponsored myself (not full factory though) and have been racing in 27t for many years. Reason being my local club(s) have only ever raced this class for on road until quite recently.

Now im in the position where the grading is based on skill not the motor used,so F1 (Pro's) and F2 (Intermediate) groups use any motor they wish to and only F3 (Amatuer) are limited to a 27t motor.

So i'm not used to the speed and therefore I either have to admit,being graded an F2 driver that i'll never be winning races in my group or I have to up the power to 19t which is what other drivers are using and work on the setup even more....

So all i'm saying from this is that maybe some full factory drivers have been caught out from their background of club racing before they stepped into the "bigger arena". Im not suprised some full factory drivers feel settled in 27,looking at my own background.

Just thought I would show a comparison as to how things have been and how they are now in my area. I'll always be staying with 27,because it's how i've raced.

A real racer is someone who knows the limits of his skill and pursues it... (Sponsors and venue permitting).

I've had some time on the track to myself lately and decided to start playing around with 19t and Mod motors. After about 5 or 6 packs with the 19, it is now just as comfortable as stock. I went back to a stock motor to burn off a pack and it felt like a dog. It wasn't even fun to drive. The problem is, if no one else wants to race 19t at the track, I'm stuck with stock. Competition is always good in stock and it is easier on cars, tires, batteries, etc... I've convinced a few to give 19t a shot this season, so hopefully it works out. Stock is still just another class of racing with all things equal, no one should be forced out of it. However, running stock and 19 at a big event shouldn't be too hard with factory support. My $.02

I dont know if that is so much true. It takes a lot to win a big race. Weather Factory sponsored or not, the race will never be handed to you.

I am currently partially sponsored by team losi and I placed 2nd at this years reedy race. I have no other sponsors but Losi and I can keep up with these factory guys.... I think it is awsome to run against someone better then me.

With that being said, the reason I do not run mod at big events is because I dont know if I can stay as consistant as the mod guys.

I know my limits and now that I have accomplished something in 19T I will move up to mod.

I think this is how It should be, If you beleive you have accomplished something in a lower level, there is no where to go but up.

I believe thats very true Kyle!! Plus, times are different now than back in the late '80's and even the '90's as far as having the best most current equipment. A guy can now a days go the LHS and buy competitive cars,chargers, motors and batteries. The difference will still be in who knows how to tune the chassis, electronics, motors and batteries! LOL Plus be able to drive the thing!

This whole thread is a double edged sword. Yes we want the fastest stock guys to be at the biggest races. On the other hand, we should want the up in coming racers to be able to compete and showcase their talents too. This is just my opinion and the way I look at it, but, for me I would want to be in the D or E mod main doing my best to compete with Hara-Masami-Hodge-Burch-Marc-MF-Spashett-Howart-Easton and all. I do also realize that today the teams seem "help" the drivers enter the classes in which they want them to compete. So I really think this trend seems to be coming more from the sponsors than the drivers themselves. Just my observation.
