Intellect Battery 3800
Hey all,
The IB3800's are through there first cycles and like the IB3600's-the numbers are excellent. Power PUsh just e-mailed me and said at 35 amps he is seeing 400 sec and 1.17+ numbers. Danny says hes happy with what hes seen off of his TM's too.
Anyone put them on the track yet? Anyone run them heads up against a GP3700? None of this unmatched BS this time. Matched GP3700 vs matched IB3800.
I wont have any till end of next week-but I'll be sure to post what I find. At least vs the IB3600 and GP3300's. I dont own any GP3700's.

Tempest-Danny did say this cell would blow people away on its performance. Considering how good the IB was for a brand new cell (in the high discharge RC racing application) it only stands to reason they have the knowledge and ability to improve rapidly. I hope it rips in stock-the I only need to have one set of packs for stock and mod racing-where as before I had packs for each.

We were sent some of the new packs to try, from Danny. I like them so far. I have been running them in mod oval, just local club racing, but the runtime is good. They cycle out better then the 3700's that I have but on the track they have a little less runtime, but more rip. I have been running 6x1's, and even though the new motors are really effecient the cell's last 4min, little to no fade and anywere from 30-60 sec left. Time to try some 5 turns. Its got better up front rip then a 3700 and equal to that of the IB 3600 without the nromal 3600 fade at about the 3 min mark.
It has equal rip of a really good 3300 pack, but the rip lasts longer. I would attribute that to the good voltage 1.17+ at 35 and the low 2.0 cell AIR. We have not seen the sticks on our shelfs yet so I dont know what the norm in numbers are but I like what I see. And if they are cheaper then the 3700's then I am all for it.
I have been charging at 6a with a 0.04 dropback in the morning and 0.03 later in the day and normal discharge at 35a. Nothing special.

Dw-any chance you can have a stock racer run them as well? I know Oval and On-road are very different beasts-but when it comes to repeatability for laptimes-nothing beats a dialed driver in oval. You watch the peak then the voltage drop off by the laptimes.

I was happy with their 3600 cells. I thought they were very top notch! I just bought three packs of the SMC 3800's at my LHS and the numbers were crazy...1.176 (@35 amps) on all packs with run time averaging about 415 seconds. Very low IR. All were 2.0.

In 19t they would go flat with 36 degree's of timing and a smaller gear. With 24 degree's of timing and a bigger gear they would not have the problem. Less amp draw from the motor.
The 3800's dont go flat in mod, so I doubt they would do it in stock.
The only reason why the cells wouldnt work in stock would be if you cant get the voltage. We were sent 1.175 @35 amps which is good if you ask me especially with 415+ runtime. Never seen 3700's that stout.

we also noticed that about the IB3600... during the course of a five min heat, in every minute, the pack would feel rather flat, forcing you to somehow change you lines a bit...
That's good news about the 3800... maybe that's why they came up with the 3800...

Do NOT deadshort the 3600's. They do not respond well to this as tested by Jsh Cyrul and others.
I charge mine at 6 for mod and 7 for stock. I was doing a 0.052 peak detect on my CE X3, but I am going to try 0.032 next practice.
The best method I have found for the IB for day and week maintenance is this:
Run 5 to 6 minutes tops-dont run till pack dumps. Leave residual charge in battery till you want to run the battery again. Just before recharging-dump them at 30 or 35 amps then into a tray (like Indi Octane-2) for 5-minutes. if its a Novak tray then maybe 10 minutes-then charge them back up as close to race time as possible.
At end of race day-leave residual charge in them till next week. Discharge and tray before running.

They are the same size as the 3700 GP's they are bigger than the 3300 and 3600 batteries. They are bigger in diameter, but the length is the same.
They will fit offroad fine. Most onroad cars unless they are new or you have a new chassis you will have to file the battery slots to make them fit properly. Most kits are already being made for the new cells.
