lee82gx;

Check the Specs on both of the speedos. What you would be interested in is ON Resistance and Max amps. The smaller the # of ON resistance the better and the Higher the Amp rating the better. But would you gain anything from one to the other, I doubt it.
I am using a 4 year old Tekin G-9 ESC in my Car. I was going to replace it with something newer until I compared the specs and found out it's as good as anything out there now.

IMHO, max amps aren't that important. Really, what motor is going to draw 690, or even 235 amps? Hook a motor up to your dyno and see what I mean. The important thing to look for in a speed control is programmability, how much motor it can handle, how well it stays cool, and the size and weight. On-resistance is also important, but just look for specs comparable to any of the other competition-level ESC's. You most likely won't feel a 0.00010 difference. I would recommend going with the Quantum Comp, simply because of the convenient size and low weight.

i would personally stick with the 7.1 due to the fact that i have owned both and really liked the 7.1. I felt the quantum comp was a little over priced at 200 new so I just kept the 7.1. Base your findings on which is better performance wise, not how some people say it is. People have different preferences and their preference might not be suitable to you.

No I wont. I also got the 7.1, it's very good and reliable. You're better of with spending the 50 bucks on some new batteries. Where I live, you can almost get a Sanyo 3300 matched pack for those money. Or spend them on a fast steering servo.... depending on what you got and what you need, of course.

I think it depends on the track you run on. I run on a high bite carpet track and the difference was noticable along with little better motor life. The 7.1 is good but thier is a difference the quantum is one of the best on the market. If you run on a outdoor track or offroad I would stick to the 7.1. Keep in mind that speedo's do loose their edge after a while they are a wearing part as well they just do it very slowly

Stay with the 7.1.
alot more durable than the Quantums, Notstrams, or Futaba MC800C. all three are the same..

It also depends on the class of car. . .

With 1/12th or Pro10 the larger speed controls just weigh too much and have an actual impact on the car's performance. Yeah, it's only a half oz or so, but it still makes a difference when you're trying to cut weight.

For stock sedan, the 7.1 is better - has more punch, more capacity, etc.

FWIW, though, I haven't seen all that many problems with the Quantum Comp - and those numbers seem low. . .oh well. I mean, you have to tape the thing to keep it together since it's only snapped together. . .but once you do that, it's been trouble free for me. . .for more than a year

Wow, you must really abuse your stuff to get the speedo case to crack open

Skibum,

Its actually a comon thing to have the case open up. Its really not a big deal to run a piece of tape around it.

I still say the quantum is one of the best on the market and for a $50 upgrade it would most likely be worth it. New is almost allways better they would not have come out with it,if it were not an improvement over the 7.1
