Touring car endurance preparation.
 

I will prepare a touring car for a 1000 lap (+/- 4 hours non stop) endurance race. If you have suggestions, tricks, ect. Feel free to post them here. I’ll keep you updated with preparation and testing of the car here.

- forget anything aluminium in terms of moving parts - go for steel versions -
- use softer parts (nylon) instead of the fiber parts
- plan spare diffs, universals
- prepare pre built modules.. sometimes it s quicker to change a sub assembly than go for changing the small part.
- Do not solder motor but use quick plugs instead..
- Fans everywhere ..on esc, motor etc.. even if you run BL.

plus a conservative gear ratio, you can run longer and with less wear = more consistent and fewer pitstops. your car's used to five minutes and i can get ten out of stock on slippery floor with 33's!!

My list:
1) brushless (soldered with the ESC, short cables, two sets)
2) Universals with lots of anti-wear grease
3) lipo pawah!!
4) many fans
5) velcro on everything
6) Gatorade and/or any mineral rich beverage.....
7) a confortable couch (I assume you will not the only pilot....) :D

everything with its own spare.... even the receiver, nuts, whatever. Well organised for not loosing time unnecessarily looking for the stuff around....

Eyedrops!!! Seriously! I did a 4 hour enduro earlier this year and the whole team (6 of us) looked like we'd been crying! I think it's because your eyes are just not used to following something so closely for so long - might have been the flourescent lighting too.

We have ran some enduro TL01 races at my local club a few times over the years for a 4 hour duration, we have 3 or 4 drivers in each team and each driver runs the stick packs of 3300 to the point before the pack dumps, at that point we change the driver and the battery pack, 1 of the drivers does corner marshal for the race team, the other takes care of the batteries and we rotate the tasks with all members of the team.

In the 4 hour enduro we bring the stock insertless TL01 tires almost the the ripping point, we dont change tires, we retighten the wheel nuts if need be and rotate the tires about 2 hours in.

We did if I remember correctly around 900+ laps. (957laps I beleive) at an average of ~14-15seconds laps, change the battery packs 25 to 27 times (9 to 11 minute runs)

Normal club average lap times are :
4cell stock : 12.00 to 15sec
6cell stock : 11.00 to 13sec
6cell 19T foam : 10.00 to 11.5sec
6cell Mod : 9.5 to 10.5 sec (Martin Crisp / Kevin Hebert / Joe Glover /Matt Stinson...)

Id love to run a Sedan enduro but could not imagine doing a 4hour run on a Stock or 19T motor LOL. it would need to be changed for maintenance at least 8 times, Id run my T2 with a Mabushi 540 if I had to run in an enduro..

Come to think of it , Id run my FK04 with 4cell with a Stock motor, after all with the 4cell configuration the car on my local track is only 1.5 seconds slower per laps then stock 6cell and with 3800mah 4cell packs im good for 10 minutes with a 37.5mm Roll out on Foam tires, (Track size is about 45 x 70), currently that setup does around 24 to 25 laps on the 5 minute mark. The foam tires I have on my 4cell sedan are 2 years old (3 complete race seasons) and are currently at 55mm (started them at 60mm), I run a P2K2 that is 3 years old, I run about 15 packs in it before maintenance , keep in mind that this is 4cell sedan and NOT 6cell, there is alot less wear on the motor, with that in mind 2 motors could possibly be needed to do an enduro with that setup.

With that setup it could possibly be possible to break the 1000 laps mark/4hours on that size track,

But a TL01 would still be my 1st choice of car for such a race. it can take the severe abuse of an enduro Race.

Actually, we did several 2.4 hours endurance race (EP and GP mix, as long as the car are 1/10th scale...you are all in)......batteries and motor are the key, however, now a day, there are something called Li-Po and brushless...the whole blue print is changing...

My question is....if all are running EP cars (forget nitro for this moment) no limit on anything, anythings goes, that is = li-po 4800mah and Brushless are legal.....ppl should still go for SPEED (4.5 brushless) or go for TIME (19T motor for Li-po may be able to last 15 plus minutes per pack)...?

I think when talking about Nimh, MOD and 19T motor with 4300 are only 2-3 minutes of different.

Just a thought, but can you get 4 hours of run time out of your radio?
My M11 eats batteries like there's no tomorrow. Possibly two + radios on same the same frequency or Spektrum's bound to the same receiver, multiple AA's ready or rechargeable's.

a lipo in my m8 lasts 4 hours, i know, i tested it at a state race :D

Actually a properly geared motor will not overheat the more you run it. It will remain the same. Fans will help between motor swaps if they are allowed.

If the drivers are rough I would consider aluminum pieces. Loctite everything you can and use locknuts where you can. Touring cars will usually hold up for the most part on their own unless you hit everything. :lol:

I ran a 24 hour enduro about 10 years ago in 1/10th pan cars on a road course. It was 5 man teams and swapping packs every 6 minutes with the help of the pit crew. We turned over 7,000 laps on our way to the win. It was a lot of fun. Never seen anything else like it.
