Default I AM NOT IMPRESSED!

Ok guys, heres the scoop! Cellshield with GTB-don't do it! It acts as a voltage restrictor, puts drag brake on the car; addressing that with Dimension Engineering on Monday. Now for the "new and improved" Cyclone...NOT IMPRESSED! Graphite main and upper chassis, aluminum outdrives by titanium racing (nice, no slippage), hara shocks, ball bearings where bushings came stock (spur, diffs) and GTB/4.5 81 spur/21 pinion FD 9.40...HPI slicks, 6000mah Li-po, belt tensioner and a few miscallaneous hop-ups.....car was slow! It looked like I may have hit 30 mph. Made this funny "whir whir whir" sound. Low end was weak, top end, not what I had with the Pro 4! With the Pro 4, I ran the same gear, with a FD of 9.23 and the car was an absolute rocket! So, what the heck is going on?!?!?!? Belts are tight without binding, free spinning drivetrain, so what the FKCU?

On mine with the kit setup the rear belt was too tight and i had turn the diff bearing holders around 180degrees to loosen it up. It was making strange noises too when it was too tight, dont know if this will help or not.

There are a couple of guys in australia running brushless on cyclones Ss and i think they reckon that the car is ok without the belt tensioner.

Also have you checked to see if you have stripped the centre pulley to the front belt (if you are still using the plastic centre pulleys). Although if this happens the car does really strange things and is uncontrollable on power in corners.

It definately makes a funny noise. I have rotated the bearing holders and will continue to experiment. To say the least, I was expecting more. Nothing is stripped, plenty of feed to the wheels, just isnt fast. Smooth yes, but definately not what I was expecting. If this continues, I will have a Cyclone for sale.

Alloy motor mount L & R
CVD's F & R
FR Purple Pivot
RF Purple Pivot

Next on the list:

carbon towers
alloy diff halves
all the complete graphite corners from a Pro 4
FF & RR HPI Pivots
Pro 4 shocks

Then I'll be happy, and it'll still be cheaper than a black Cyclone!
Update, the carbon chassis has arrive, it looks awesome. I haven't measured it but it looks like its 3mm thick, ideal for carpet. Its also got little plastic stoppers to hold the cells in, but its tape only, no strap. The upside is its got a purple alloy ariel mount.

Also, the topdeck is here, its got its own standoffs and a neat '3' logo engraved above the centre servo saver.

Pics when fitted.

I hope your car runs and performs better than mine. Mine appeared to be rock solid, dialed and all that good stuff. All of the guys I race with were looking forward to it having "the speed of the pro4" but in belt form. Lets just say it didnt measure up. Outside of the purple bulkheads and motormounts, my car is pretty much hopped up to standard Cyclone status. Any suggestions??? And please, not the "adjust your diff bearing holder"...that has been done several times already.

Well just finished up the weekend at the Midwest Carpet Championships in Omaha running my "S" in the 4300 rubber class. Had problems with the dang dogbones in the front and before I got it figured out I was using yokomo bd knuckles cause I bought the store out of Pro 4 knuckles and broke them all. The yoks work but aren't a perfect fit which means you'll have to change out both fronts so they are the same (if you ever have the need). Basically the dogbone was coming out of the axle causing the knuckle to snap. Man was I frustrated. Also broke the chassis in a different place than before (battery side where the hole is cut out to put a driver through to tighten the motor screws). Boy after you look at that there isn't much support there! But by the end the car was awesome! bxpitbull I don't have any wisdom for your problem but I was running against T2's, RDX's, FT TC4's, JRXS's and I was hanging right with them when it came to speed. Hope you get it figured out!

Padailey, thanks. Hopefully, it's something I did wrong or overlooked that will work itself out to be a minor fix. I wanna to have some success stories for this vehicle. HPI/Hot Bodies need to snap out of it and get some support going. I mean honestly, how can you have Atsushi Hara, Surikharn and Andy Moore signed and not run one single ad (latest car action-one spread for the savage) for a championship winning car?!?!?!?

why such a high FD bx?? i dont run brushless nor do i know enough about them outside the gearing has to be spot on. but a FD of 9.4 is alot of accel and no top end(for brushed motor). i run stock motors and i run around a 6.5 if i can on most tracks. i have not gotton my cyclone S yet, but its on its way. i was just curious why such a high FD. have you tried adjusting your diff holders?? JUST KIDDING

For the 4.5, novak suggests a FD between 9.5- 10.5. These are the starting points and they say as long as your temps dont hit 160-170, you can actually go below that. With my Pro4 (same internal gear ratio), I ran a FD of 9.23 on 6000mah Li-Po for 35 minutes straight and never broke 130. Snappy low end and top end was flat out bananas. So, that being said, if the Cyclone is built on the same type of platform as the Pro4 but as a belted version, than I should have an absolute rocket, losing a hair of top end and having way more snap off the line.

if it only ran 130(i dont know the outside temp when u ran it) and it now being colder i'd try for 9.0FD. and im sorry to hear that this car isnt like your pro4. the pro 4 is shaft drive correct?

BX, how tight is your rear diffs? Mine was pretty tight and seemed to slow the car down. I loosened it up. I put it on the ground with the bumper on my shoe. I then tightened the diff until I found the sweet spot.

Are you running cvds or dogbones?

Regular 'black' woven. Where I race, the surface is a bit roughed up, so SSG turns black and nasty when scratched.

Fitting it today.

So is there any real difference between the two other than color?

Let us know how it all fits together!
