The cyclone s can take a stick pack, i believe the drift version just has some different equipment in there.

For gearing you will have to find a drift thread and ask. Gearing is dependent on a number of factors including the type and make of motor, track layout and i guess tyres might make a difference for gearing.

Ok... i'm using the R540 sport tuned motor or the SuperStock TZ motor... looking for FDR of 6.5 but heard that the 96T doesn't mesh or mesh well with 36T pinion... I've yet to build the car.. and wanted to get the right pinion and spur gear sizes before building..pls advise. oh.. tires using PVS, ABS or HPI drift .

Viper, You will probably still be better off finding a drift forum and asking there.
Im pretty sure most of the people here are racers not drifters.

THose two motors are completely different my understanding is that the black can will be a waste of time for drifting anyway.

Also in my opinion you are best off going with 48 pitch gears i dont know what the max spur is with the cyclone s but on the regular cyclone the biggest spur is an 81T 48 pitch.

Hey guys/gals,

Can the diffs and center pulley handle 17.5 torque? I'd like to run Lipo if I buy this car, so how high is the topdeck?

Thanks in advance!

17.5 will be fine unless you change the front to a spool or one-way. If you do that i would suggest upgrading the centre pulley.

You should only have to buy the new layshaft and 1 centre pulley, as the new layshaft has holes for pins (although ive never tried it).

Orion 4800s fit with ease. I believe the Core and SMCs will fit as well.

2 queries:

1. Are the Cyclone S drift special edition dampers good enough.. thinking of changing to TRF dampers..or any other recommendation..But first of all, with there be any significant improvement and with TRF damper fit?

2. What type of shock oil are suitable for drifting?

3. Using the orange springs.. for drifting what type of springs are good.. or combinations? Pls advise.

i hv tried 100/41 with a FDR approx = 6, good speed and torque for drifting.. But i do have a 96/36 (still in package) which gave me FDR of 6.5 but need to try if i can get the pinion meshed with the spur gear.

Could u give some advise on the latest queries that i hv raised in the above? thanks in advance.

well youll have to grind down the layshaft support so the motor slides futher back , and also youll have to make the slots longer so you can mount the motor . if your using that spur and pinion.. as far as springs and oil . im not sure i dont do drifting . with out cutting anything you can run 102 /38 wich will give you a 6.5 fdr ..

Hey guys, picked up a Cyclone S RTR with the intention of Vintage Trans Am racing in the fall. So far, really pleased with the car, very nice. Although I have not owned or driven any other 1/10th TC, so what do I know.

Couple of questions....

1. Anyone done much VTA racing/setup with a Cyclone S that may have some set up tips? (Indoor, carpet)

2. Other than C-hubs, any other upgrades that should be high on the list?

3. What spare parts are must have?

4. What parts are needed for adding sway bar, obviously the sway bars, but not clear on hardware for connecting it.

Thanks!

I think it should be in the manual, or an addendum page which came with the manual.

Im guessing that the parts you need are:
4 x 72302 - part which the sway bar threads through at the ends
4 x z700 grub screws (to screw into part 72302 to hold the sway bar)
The spare parts from the 73510 parts tree
4 x z705 grub screws (goes between the ball cup and ball end, dont know what its called, from the parts off the 73510 tree)

I assume 4 more z700 grub screws to hold the sway bars in the middle at the bulkhead.

Upgrades if you are racing stock/540 i wouldnt bother, first thing would be to save up and upgrade the decks to Carbon Fibre, but if you do that you have to ditch the battery holder and go to using tape.

Maybe after that if you are keen upper bulkeads and the shock towers, i probably wouldnt bother with sway bars, they are more fine tuning. If you are really looking for tuning options i would go with different springs, although even then i rarely ever play with springs on the full version.

I would also get titanium ball studs, the black stock ones break very easily, you may already know that.
