Default Tamiya Question.

Just got a TA04-3 chassis (C5-R ) kit on ebay for my sons 7th b-day comming up that comes with the stocker "silver can" motor . My Q is what would be a great upgrade motor that is not to fast ? after my boy gets used to the stocker first (noob steps) would any 27t do? ( like the trinity monster hp sereies or a pk2 pro) then after that i will go to a 19t then it's game on .... 12t / brushless

I am not familliar with any of the tamiya on-road chassis there seems to be a ton I grew up with the old school Fox, hornet , grasshoper.

Thanks for all help.

Cheapest upgrade would be the Tamiya RS-540 Sport Tuned motor (Black Can)

yeah, the sport-tuned is a good choice for a step up for a noobie in the hobby. Search 'RS540' at towerhobbies.com and it should bring up the black can motor.

Yeah, get the black can, it is the cheapest and hardest and best bang for the buck. Get some pinions also (22T, 23T not sure I have a TA05 and TT01, take a look at the manual), to mess a little with gear ratio's. The black can works very well if properly geared...

As exspensive as the black can is, just buy a monster stock motor. Yes, it's alot faster, but your batteries play a bigger roll in how fast the car will actually go. The black can will last half the amount of time as the monster motor.
