US Indoor Champs 2006

Well I will say this..this was my first Champs and it left a bad taste in my mouth for ever coming back.
1- The drivers meeting was a JOKE!!! All was done was thank the sponsors. Thats great and all. But there should have had some info on how tech was gonna run. What was actually gonna be teched. How the breaks were going to be taken between classes. Where the RIGHT spot was for you to marshall. Things like that.
2- The breaks for guys to switch over from 19t to mod TC were not needed. YOU HAD 3 CLASSES OF 1/12th scales. There is no need to "STOP" the program for 20-30 mins every round, when you have races that can be ran. Run Stk. 1/12th between 19t and Mod. TC's???? Who says you have to run all of the TC's together and all of the 1/12ths together. Make it so the program runs smooth.
3-I got the feeling all week that, well this race has been here for 27 yrs, no matter what we do you will come back next year......
4- There was no mention of the "pizza party" all week until what about an hour before it started, again prob. could have been mentioned in the drivers meeting.
5- WHY RUN ALL OF THE MAINS AT THE END OF THE DAY ON SUN.??? Again you had to "STOP" the program for guys running back to back. I know I had an 8hr. ride home and work on Mon. That time would have been nice to have had to leave that much earlier.
Maybe they will listen the racers and use this to only make it better, its up to the race director now....

I got the feeling that alot of the reason the races were ordered the way they were, and the reason for some of the breaks, was due to the prehistoric schedule software that was shown on the TV. That was written like 15 years ago or more when we only had 1 race length to account for. It needs updated to at least handle 5 and 8 minute races better. If nobody up that way wants to do it, send the crap to me and I will fix it.
I also vote to replace the webcams with the live timing screen from liverc.com for the closed-circuit TV. All you can see is blurry dots moving around the track anyway. Can't actually watch the races...

Well,
Now that I feel almost human again, here's what I have to say about the '06 Champs.......
It was yet another AWESOME week of racing, sleep deprivation, and camaraderie. Are there some things that need to be addressed? Sure. But EVERY big race always some issues to resolve for the following year. The one and only thing I personally had a problem with was the bumpy track, but it really wasn't any worse than alot of club tracks I've been to, and it was the same for everyone. Plus, the track crew worked their asses off TWICE to try and smooth it out. Drew and Jon Orr got T-bar cars around the track just fine
so it couldn't have been that bad.
Tech was much more fluid this year, but I've learned that some people are gonna bitch about tech regardless of how strictly or loosely it's done.
51 heats! If any of you understand what a monumental undertaking that is as far as organization goes, then you'd back off a bit about time. Especially when you consider that this race has to have the largest 12th scale turnout on earth.
As far as the mains go, If you run the A's together (which I'm fairly certain we're ALWAYS going to do) you're gonna end up with some folks back to back. There were guys in the 19t 12th main who were in the TC 19t main, there were guys in the Mod mains in both, and Stock mains in both, and ELI was in both masters mains. We were done at what 6:30 PM on Sunday? 51 mains, even with extra prep time for the last eight of them took less than 12 hours!!!! Sorry, as a race official I don't think this is too bad. The Champs is an International event, not a Sunday club race.
Okay, I'm stepping down from the old soapbox now. I hope everybody had a blast, I didn't offend too many people over the course of the event, and I wanna congratulate, Pepe Lemieux, The Fabulous One, Josh, Cuffs, Eli and Drew on their outstanding performances..........

Eli shouldn't be banned from Masters, he should just man up and move to Modified, but then again I am not sure his beard is aerodynamic enough... Look out Barry, Eli is coming after you

Now just wait one darned minute...................I believe that Frank Calandra Jr. won 5 years in a row. Right? I've still got 2 more years just to tie him! So it looks like I may be racing for at least next year and the year after that and the year after that and the year after that, provided the Champs is still running.

Nah, let Eli run masters, but he has to start from the BACK in the main And HIS handout motor should be circa 1996. I bet some original Slot Machines can still be found NIB. :P
