Less than 30 days ago I bought my EVO5 used off ebay.
The person I bought for stated he'd purchased it new and only used for a practice run and 1 heat of a TCS race.
Gave the car a complete over haul because it had obviously been used more than previously stated.
Rebuilt it according to the manual with the exception of a few mods, one of them being a spool in the front.
Don't know what kind of spool it is but it fits perfectly, its got good gear mesh equal to rear (same amount of gear lash), and no obvious modifications to the spool, the shims are just in a little different order.
I'd like share a recent experience here also, on a little different subject. Last weekend I went racing in a local points series near me. I've been racing my TA05R with a 13.5 BL set up and doing well but I bent a rear arm during practice and had my EVO with me initially to just test with. I did not want to disassemble the suspension off the EVO and install it on my R because the LWT short arms would required a complete swap on the R. So I raced with the EVO and had the best finish I've had with that group and to boot, it was with a brushed stock motor....
The EVO showed better acceration coming out of the corners and suspension seemed to settle and have more stability entering the corners.
All in all I'm thinking the EVO5 is a great car to stock racing!

I attached a photo of the front spool in the car, if one of you knows what kind it might be, let me know, thanks.

Not sure of the problem on your car. Mine bolted in without any mods. I've been using it for some time now. I just put the 415mre cups on it, and added the 415mre sleeve too. I checked with Fred at Tamiya America, and confirmed its legality for this years TCS Nationals.

Yes this is the Evo 4 Spool with the ta05 outdrives.

At my car the spool fit without mods, but when you race it, then it is a little bit noisy!

The mesh of the gears is not so smooth as with the oneway.

After i have done the mod (3 tens away from the Ringgearmounting surface), it run this free, same as with the oneway.

By the way. It looks like the aluminium gears, wich were presented at the fair with the evo5, are also discontinued

An other question.

Wich rear upright are you running?

The standard 0 Upright, or the "H0" Upright wich is an Hopup.

Has anyone thested the H0 on the Evo5? What are the benefits, and for what kind of surface is it designed?

Greetings from Austria

I don't use any grease on my gears, that creates drag and don't want that!
I use the 1 degree rear carriers.

What class are you running? Stock? 19T? Are you using the kit setup now? Are you using the one-way, spool, diff up front?

Hy !

I run on Asphalt with low grip:

Dampers: 3 Hole, 40oil, yellow all around, red rebound(things).
Chamber: 1,5 all around
Chaster: 4
Toe in rear: 2 (Sus. Mount 1A and 1E)
Front one way
Rear upper Damper position hole 2 (if 1 is the one outside, and 5 the last inside the bulkhead)
the upper arm mounts i use the inner one all around (f+r)
Ride height f:5mm r:5,5mm.
The soft (red) swaybar all around.
droop f: 5 r: 6 (measured on the bottom of the sus Arm)

The rest positions and shims are al as inthe kit setup.

I have one hint for you. If the track is very low grip, then you can test to upper the rollcenter.

For these you can use 1mm or better for the begining 0,5mm shims under the suspension blocks, and no swaybars.

but dont forget to adjust the drop after.

Greetings from Austra
