Default Motor spray/meths as a tyre cleaner?

Since this is an American forum, people mention denatured alcohol a lot, the UK equivalent of which is meths (methylated spirits).

Is meths OK to use as a tyre cleaner or is it too harsh for modern tyre compounds?

Same with motor spray, is it also too harsh?

I use motor spray on a rag to clean my tyres down after a race. I don't spray directly on the tyres. Have not noticed any abnormal tyre wear from doing that. Infact, I think it makes it last a little longer. But as that old statment goes, your milage may vary.
