The exoskeleton design is a bit of a nightmare from a manufacturing point of view at the very least I think. It's a highly complex 3 dimensional shape that is injection moulded, which creates all kinds of consistency issues with material thickness and dimensional accuracy. The exoskeleton concept I reckon is one that works best in metal, like 1:1 cars. Tamiya plastic chassis are also notoriously prone to tweak and heatsoak. Also I suspect wrenching is a nightmare. A relatively flat plate design like the TA08 eliminates a lot of those issues right off the bat.
Yowza. $700 for the TA-07MS on eBay.

I hadn't thought about consistency issues with the manufacturing of the complex TA-07 chassis. That's a good point. I tend to assume things like that get ironed-out before products make it to production, but I suppose that's not always the case.

What the weight of a ta08 pro with electronics roughly? How much more weight does it have compared to a carbon chassis car?

The car is lighter than many carbon cars. 1040g with a 290g lipo. So adding a shell and wheels puts you around 1200g much lighter than the TA07.

Lots of detail in the link above.

TCS rules lowered the minimum weight (1410 g down to 1375 g), perhaps because of the TA08?

The 08 does have more flex, so if you're running 13.5. you'll need a fibrelyte top carbon deck.
hahaha, "that exoskeleton" did make things interesting. Care to comment further? For example, a pinion swap and gear mesh adjustment on the TA08 is a breeze in comparison to the TA07.
Installing a full size battery pack in the TA07 was easy, but what about taping in a shorty pack?
Installing and removing the battery plugs on the TA07 a routine?
When building - routing the motor, battery, and fan wires - they were all supposed to fit inside the TA07 exoskeleton, right?
A big advantage of the TA07's is the ability to move the motor position fore and aft with just two screws. Yet most cars were locked in one position because even with a small electronics and long wires, moving the motor meant moving and reinstalling the receiver, esc, fan, wires, etc.
What other things made TA07 fun to work on?

The TA-07 Reinforced chassis is Part# 54745. However the RR does come with reinforced bulkheads and carbon fiber center braces.

If weight is an issue, the TA-08 should be lighter than a TA-07 plastic chassis due to design.

Here is are detailed specs from Tamiya to help someone compare specs...
TA-07 Pro - https://www.tamiya.com/english/products/58636/index.htm
TA-07 RR - https://www.tamiya.com/english/products/47445/index.htm
TA-08 Pro -https://www.tamiya.com/english/products/58693/index.htm

The TA08 lower deck 9335853 is a consideration as other threads show lower deck breakage and rear toe-in mounts damage. That would be no big deal but the lower deck has been OOS for months and auction site prices reflect this. TA07 parts are readily available.
gigaplex likes this.
