Smile Which TC5?

Hi guys,

I have just bought this chassis. I got it really cheap, but there wasn't any documentation, so I'm wondering which chassis it is.

I'm guessing TC5, but there seems to be different versions of the chassis? I have downloaded a manual, but the upperplate is not the same, and the manual shows a ball-diff in front, but my car has a spool.

So, can you tell me which car it is, and whether is something I should be concerned about, or not?

Here's a picture:

Cheers,
Peter

You have the TC5-R. It comes with the ITF upper and lower decks of the chassis, which are slightly thinner than stock allowing more chassis flex. A front spool works well in many situations so that is nothing to be concerned about. The stock TC5-R I belive did come with a front diff, but it really comes down to preference as to which to run. It looks like it already has a Lipo craddle so you should be all good to go with modern electronics. The R version was built for rubber tires on asphalt, but you can set it up for carpet or even foam tires if you run them. I personally used to run a TC5-R in VTA with good success.

Thumbs up

Thank you very much, for that detailed answer.

My plan is to drive it for fun, on a fantastic asphalt track that are close to me. TC in Denmark has always been on rubber tires, which I'm also going to do, so that is just perfect. I'm only driving on practice-nights for fun, so I don't really need a newer chassis - this TC5 seems fine for me.

Thank again, and looking forward to driving a TC again, after having raced M-chassis and F1 lately.

Cheers,
Peter

Default TC5 VTA

I am just getting back into on-road as it has been awhile. I am looking for a set-up for asphalt for VTA, or would I have better luck on another thread.

I know this car is old but it was a cheap buy and a surprisingly great performer. its got sway bars, a rear gear diff in it, belts flipped and a li-po cradle on it. I was also wondering if there were anymore goodies for this chassis such as aluminum dogbones(maybe from another mfr that fits) or double jointed front shafts? how about a means to bring the motor closer to center line? thanks

Can someone please post a close up picture of the labels on their drive belts? I know they are Bando belts, just need to see the rest of the part numbers. I think they say "DO NOT BEND" then "BANDO" then the part number. Please for FRONT and REAR. Thanks.

Just picked up a used TC5 and going to build it for some parking lot racing, is there anything I need to look for as far as parts that wear or replacements that break often? Been years since I had an onroad car....Will be using lipo battery and current electronics. Is the spool slipper recommended??

Thanks!

I have bought another TC5 (I think). But this one have a lipo chassis-plate.

Am I right in that this is still a TC5R, just with a lipo plate, instead of a NiMh plate?

Is there a difference to them? Is one better than the other. The Lipo plate is also slimmer, is that good?

I'm going to drive mainly on carpet with rubber tires and a 13,5T blinky setup.

Cheers,
Peter

This one has an Exotek chassisplate: Lipo and better flex for the rubber tire class.

My TC5 has that exact exotech chassis plate, I'm running VTA and the car is starting to feel good just wondering if anyone has a set-up sheet for the 5 with exotech chassis?

Recently purchased a used TC5 for VTA. ( I had the kit when it was first released and raced it for 2 seasons) When I received it, the shocks were leaking horribly. Tried rebuilding but just couldn't stop the oil from running out the bottom( I think the shock bodies were worn out. the plastic retainer over the o ring would not " click" into place).Anyway. ordered up some TRF hard anodized shocks and they are smooth as silk.

Wondering if anyone has a good set up for VTA they'd share. I assembled it with 30 wt oil all around, Tamiya white springs up front ( they measure up as the same weight as Associated silver ), Associated green springs back, -2 deg. of camber all around, 3 deg of rear toe in. I did widen the car to move the wheels out under the Protoform Pontiac TransAm.

I've been running my TC5 in USVTA lately and having some success. Attached is a picture of my RC Crew Chief setup as a screenshot.

Hope this helps!
