After having raced two TC5 chassis for 1 1/2 seasons in two different classes, and then changing to the TC6 and a Photon for this outdoor season...the answer to your question is "depends".

If you're going brushless and lipo to compete in a Touring Car class against other modern chassis, 110% "NO". By the time that you've applied all the fixes to the configuration to get it up to 90% of where a TC6 is out of the box, you're going to spend as much as a new TC6 and still not have the performance or tuning options. Been there, done that x2. Not happy!

If you're going mild RCGT or VTA, apply all of the brushless/lipo fixes, spring it light, and you'll be doing just fine.

Depends on which motor you're using, but anything around a 4.0 for 17.5 blinky. Use a heatsink/fan and don't be afraid to gear it hot!

I still run a TC5 and still have good results but I can see the difference compared to more updated cars. The car is fast but the infield is where it counts and its not up to par.

I wouldnt say dont get it just depends on what you want it for, Compete NO, racing here and there YES.

What is the best "lipo fix"? I seen there are a few options?
Thanks

I made my own in carbon fiber, I moved the cell out (so that the female connector is outside of top deck for chassis balance) I thin down the top deck for flex, switch belts and spool/diff around so that the long belt is now running on the right side of servo saver post, that way I can fit my electronics closer to the center of chassis for balance.I use tape to hold the battery not to tweak the chassis with the battery bar.

This is the minimum to put your TC5 to Lipo spec.

Then you can get a motor mount that will bring your motor closer to the center line and cut the bottom parts of the front metal diff holders for more flex.

Yep, I did something similar...moved the stock lipo tray over 1/4 inch, flipped the belts, and changed motor mounts. In the end, the Exotech chassis turned out to be way more consistent and easier to drive.

Yes I like the option Exotek for TC5, makes life easier and closer to TC6 setup

I imagine that your chassis is not balanced with the lipo so close to the middle and the extra weights of electrics.

Did you check this?

No problem olly986

I found that for me in stock racing, unbalanced car (lighter side of lipo) about 15g max gives no difference

Regards!
