Hey guys. Been away from touring cars a while and had a few questions. The
TC5R is for rubber but can you really get it stiff enough in high traction events? I've always liked the real stiff chassis in the past. I was leaning towards the
TC5F just because it has the thicker chassis.. Thanks..

All trends have gone to a more flexible chassis for rubber tires. All current top level designs have gone to great lengths to bring back more flex in fact. Just works better

6 years ago the flex was for asphalt.lol It was un heard of for carpet. The old cars I remeber that were flexi would hold a tweek sometimes. But that was then and this is now...

I run the tcfs on carpet and asphalt its all in the setup me and donny lia ran the cars at jackson with the carpet chassis and they were wicked fast i almost won the 17.5 class at the xray challenge with it.Flex adds to figuring your geometry out and is inconsistent a stiff chassis is very consistent.

Stiff is for carpet / foam (HIGH traction)

Flex is for rubber...

Hey I have a couple of stupid questions. building my first touring car in about 10 years and I went with the tc5r.1. when setting droop what is the best way to do this? 2. when setting toe in the back with shims if the setup calls for 3 deg and I put 3deg worth of shims per side do I have 3 deg total or 6 deg total. I've read a couple different answers on this so not real sure. Any info would be great. Thanks!

Assuming that you have the 0* rear hubs and 3* of shims you would have 3* total. You do not add the two sides together. For setting the droop look at the TC5 documents section on the AE site. I would post a link but I dont have enough posts yet.

The best way to set droop is whichever method works best for you. I know this is not the answer you was looking for.

Here is the link I think carrera0to60 mentioned:click here.

Here is a picture of the droop gauge in use: click here.

Hey Warren does this setup happen to work at Frederick on their asphalt? I seen your car worked pretty good at Jackson last year. I hope to run a race or two at Jackson this year.

should work awesome there i think the bite is high at that track so iwould say a slightly stiffer front spring over what i normaly run should work great.

Cool. I would be interested in a rough setup if you have something you think will work. Never actually had any luck with a TC5R other than outdoors at Trains and Lanes but other than that never had the car work that well for me. I hope this time around with an almost brand new car things will be better for me. Short on cash and can't afford to do the touring car of the week thing. Its this car or bust for me so I need to make it work at fairly decent. Don't need to win but just something thats drivable and reasonably consistant.
