I was using 3.69 with a Novak Havoc 17.5 system... but was told this may be too low for the LRP/Duo2 and it might burn it up.

Thanks!

I would try somewhere between 4.7 and 4.3. One of the people I race with went from 3.5 to 4.3 with a SPX on 7. But this is also on a very large track that is on the side of a hill.

Way cheaper to buy the Rubber kit and the hard parts.

I run the tc5f on asphalt with no handling issues very fast you just have spring the car softer and it works great.

Thats why I got the FT, one I got it before the price hike (TC5 kits went up by $70-$100) and two I already had the soft springs from my TC4. All I've done is got the ITF top deck and the car is awesome to drive on low bite ashphalt.
My FT drives just as well as my R, but seriously if you're racing ashphalt just get the ITF top deck and you'll be fine, the ITF chassis does make a difference but not enough for me need change the FT chassis to an ITF one.

Try this, it should put you in the ball park. I haven't raced this setup yet as I've just started using it for Super Stock (10.5) I just haven't had a race meet yet, but it has had a good days practice against other cars.

Depends on how hot your track is but start with 4.0. Temp the motor after 3 min and adjust FDR from there. Max motor temp should be about 150. Fan is a must or the motor can fade at the 3 min mark. If the motor feels like cogging a little then gear down or turn the profile down a few clicks. SPX is a beast

A picture with your post, when trouble shooting, will probably get more rctech help than without...

A buddy is running the SXX with 17.5 motor with 41/70 - 3.41 FDR.
Motor comes off super hot (190-210) and ESC/batt is cooler. Most other guys in the class are claiming to be running 3.5 FDR and I need to compete. Buddy thinks I should start where he is at but do not want to burn up motors....what do you all think I should run?

Small to med track asphalt

Thanks

A new ESC will make the biggest difference. Get a Tekin RS or a SPX, and your car will really come alive , and you wont have to gear as high, and then you should run cooler as well. With the new tekin firmware (200 vs 198), ive noticed about a 20* drop in temp with 13.5, because the timing advance lets you gear lower. Should see similar results in 17.5. Like MikeR said, you will probably want a fan in 17.5 anyway, and that will help with temps

I would start at 3.5/3.6 When I was using a TC Spec I was at 3.5 this was one a very large open track that was designed for nitros and 1/5th's. But if you track is flat you may get away with 3.4.
On my TC Spec I was geared at 3.5 with my Tekin RS (v200) I'm geared at 4 and is much faster then the TC Spec.

my question is why the motor is so hot compared to ESC and batt...I thought that meant it was under-geared? I have seen him burn up 2 motors geared his way...190-210 was an estimate...it was smoking hot!
I run off road 10th and 8th scale electrics and none of my motors get over 160.

What kind of timing is he running? It should not be that hot. Either he is running a lot of timing or he has his brakes at a high setting and is using them a lot.

It's the hacker E40 17.5...I did not know it had adjustable timing so I am a bit unsure
