Gear down to range from 4.2 to 4.9...depending on track.
try a start at the middle...4.5....and see how that goes.

run a large fan or the MuchMore ultraRpm fan....
that should help a lot.....

I've got a TC5R, stock kit setup, Novak Havoc Sport Brushless 17.5 system, 40 Sweep tires, 94731 Airtronics servo, use a Reedy 5000mah 20C lipo battery, and run a 3.89 FDR with a pinion of 37 and spur of 72. I race outdoor parking lot asphalt.

I usually thermal on the last lap of my race, somewhere around 4-6 minutes of driving, the ESC will shutdown because temps reach around 160 degrees.

I'm going to try a few things in this order:

1: Change my tires to sorex 36s. I noticed my car sliding a lot, so getting better grip and not wasting so much energy could bring the temp down.
2: Snap on a heat sink
3: install on a fan
4: Gear down a bit to a 35 or 36 pinion

I do like the punch/speed of the car, so that's why I'd like to try to mess with the gearing last if nothing else works. Anyone got opinions on how I'm trying to solve this thermal issue?

Thanks, Any help is appreciated.
AJ
Try another ESC, there should be no reason why you'll be thermalling at that ratio for 17.5. My LRP TC Spec at 3.5 only got to 69c and my Tekin RS with boost at 3.7 got to 73c, in both occasions that speedys never got hot.

No prob, Spam77
some of the guys are right the Havoc can be replaced with a beefier speedo...

but most likely if running a Havoc then you're probably starting on a budget...
must run it with a fan...until it blows or you get tired of it

I think Novak has a trade up program.....if they do..you can trade up to a GTB or Slyder for a charge...check their website.

Thanks for the advice olhip and Scooter,

Yeah, I was on a budget... but I did get a fan to help things along until the havoc blows up (or I get the funds to trade up).

Have a good one!

man my car sucked at IIC today. Insane turn in, and super loose in the rear.

I have removed the sway bar, 50wt in the front, 40wt rear. Silver front, blue springs rear. I dont know what to do. I have my expo at -80, and dual rate around 60

Switch the springs around.. blue front silver rear. You really shouldnt ever run stiffer springs in the rear than in the front.

This is Josh H's Rubber/carpet setup. Ive personally never used it, but everyone loves it.

Agree, Every run the grip will increase fast.

Try raising your front susp arms (Higher Roll Center), and check the amount of toe at the rear.

Best Regards,

Robert

Default small changes

do small changes....
as some already mentioned
reverse your springs.
then raise your front roll center blocks.
then try long links in the rear. lengthen the inner link first.
i always use the the thinnest sway bar.
or it may be easier to ask the sponsored AE team. they should be able help you very easily.
Don't be shy...and just ask for their help...it's part of why they are there.

Good luck out there.

Go find the AE team guys, and bring your car with. They will help get you going in the right direction.

Building first TC5R - There are no diff balls in the front spool - Gear sandwiched between the outdrives - is this correct? This is how I assembled it and it is next to impossible to spin the outdrives in opposite directions.

Sorry for the newbie question!
