I take it you purchased a TC5, or are you just window shopping.

Hi Guys,

Can you guys please tell me what size pinion should I be using for a 17.5bl stock motor on medium size track using rubber tyres and 48 pitch 87 tooth spur.

Thanks

runinonempty- You will need to get a smaller spur gear because the 87 is too big to fit the big pinion you will need with the 17.5. I am not sure what is the right gearing for 17.5 but I would think you need a 74 spur gear or so. At the Paved National, I ran 74 spur with a 30 pinion so you will want to go higher than that.

i think its eaiser to find 64 pitch... i run a 96/51 which gives me a 3.76. 17.5 you need to get down to the low 4's high 3's with the final drive.

I run 64P as well with my TC5 as you will have issues with large 48P pinions (I got to a 72/31 before going 64P). I have been running a pretty technical layout with a 88/50 64P combo which puts my FDR in at 3.52. This is with the Novak 17.5ss and 13mm tuning rotor and after a 5 minute run I was at about 135* with ambient temperature around 85*. I was happy with torque and top end for Stock TC class. You will find that if you try a spur smaller than 88T in 64P that you will run into gear mesh issues as you run out of motor slot as you push it towards the spur layshaft.

hey, what's up to everyone that responded to me.

I've been a "thread hoe" lol i guess that's a good way to put things. I'VE BEEN window shopping on this item for weeks. what person doesn't?

i made sure about all the specs of the car and parts source. i gave it a go. my car is being shipped.

not everyone runs on track. i take it this is a good track car but I'm i have no friends or fam in the hobby so I've been solo at it. I'm going to make a course in a parking and have fun like I've been doing since y2k was soppos to hit. all i needed to know what's a good size pinion.

I'm geussin the stock spur? i don't wana over gear the car or under gear it. just something that will have my electronics warm.

thanks anyways.
