Default TC5 advice

Hi guys I'm in the process of buying a Factory Team TC5 and plan to run rubber tires on asphalt and on carpet. Can someone give some setup advice and just basic things to look out for. It will not be a 5R or 5F just the standard factory team.

If you are getting the standard FT kit....the first thing to get is the spring kit pt#3988...also get the thinner ITF chassis and topdeck when you can....

everything else like a front spool you can get later...just run your front diff extra tight for now...

Setup wize, check out the setups on RC10.com....maybe start with one of the 2007 Reedy Race setups...they are a good starting point...

tool wise....grab a 2mm ball hex driver when you can...that will make roll-center mount changes a breez...

Good luck and ask away if you have more questions....lotsa good help on this thread....

Find out what tires the local guys are running. It will make the biggest difference!

I only club race, and we all run foam on a parking lot. Does anyone else race there TC5 in parking lots? Do any of you run foams on asphalt?

Thanks for the advice guys. That's what i needed to know. One more question, I've heard that the plastic wears out pretty fast. Any truth to that?

There are a few of us outside the US that run foam/asphalt.
You can try here for some of my setups http://rcracer.co.nz/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=140
The Manawatu setup is probably your best bet for a parking lot track, it should be nice and stable.

Are you talking about the plastic outdrives? If so, they hold up well.....not as well as aluminum pieces that are protected by "blades".....but as long as your not running hot modified motors they will last a long time...

Questions?? yo

I'm new to this forum! so HI!!! ok but... I'm interested in getting a tc5 I need an updated car! ok so how's parts? are parts going to be around for a while? the tc3 is going strong on parts still!!! will the tc5 be the same? i know its only about a year since the car came out or not that sure and i know its too soon to talk about parts in the future. but i have all OLD tc tamiya cars from the mid to late 90's and I'm tired of having outdated stuff. my radio it top notch (for me) now i need a new TC! and i don't wana buy something that i can't fix in the future! should i get this bad thought out my head and just drop the dime? or do research on another chassis?......

anyone? help?

I dont think any of us can predict the future but I would say based on your past experience with Associated its a safe bet they will have parts support for a good while. They are also coming out with new parts and newer versions of the car so thats a good sign.

I went from Tamiya EVO's to TC5 myself. For me, at least part of the purchase was because my tools and spare screws were already metric.

Plus my LHS is an AE store and not a Tamiya store.

What do your friends run? That would also be a huge part of it, for sharing parts when broken is key to fun in the hobby, imho.

Hey Marcos, I got the setup I ran at the Ice Berg Champs earlier this year. It worked well for me on CS27's. The only change I made for asphalt was taking the rear sway bar out. PM me if you want it.
