Hey guys, the TC5 is almost ready. This is actually the RC car built for Subaru Rally Team USA Factory driver (and DCshoes co-founder) Ken Block.
I need to gear this thing, he will use it mostly for parking lot fun and to keep it on the shelf at his office.
Setup it's:
-Mamba 5700
-Reedy Lipos 5000mha

I have a 20pinion 87spur but I don't think it will be the right combo.
This car needs to be reliable and fast, so a gearing that takes care of both would be ideal. Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot.
I have attached a pic of Ken's real ride.

Mid low or mid high gives the best drive shaft angles. Full loose on the belt tention. 1 frt 8 bck.

As i know the US cars springs are always stiffer than JP cars.
Could somebody tell me if tc5 springs are really in this case(ex:harder than the Atsushi Hara's ver.1 series hard, medium and soft).
If i want to use the another brand springs, then AHRP ones could fit on tc5's shocks?

Technically you could drill holes in the plastic through the diff ball area in the gear, and then secure it.

To build a spool just take the diff balls out and glue some sandpaper to the diff rings. Works great.

For $17, buy one. It's that easy.

A bunch of us with TA05's put these where this diff balls go and it worked great (actually a little better then a spool b/c in a crash it would allow the wheels to go backwards slightly).

I dont remember the size of the diff balls in the TC5 but they might work.

If what i have seen has not changed, the spool conversion will be 2 rings of a white plastic material that will go in place of the diff rings. Neat, and you should have better drivetrain life than the solid spool.

Could someone help me put together a actual parts list to make a tc5r?
(I'm surprised AE hasn't done so already)
-Going from TC5 (original release) to TC5R
-Going From TC5F to TC5R

If I'm not mistaken, all that is required are ITF chassis and ITF top plate, and
spool option. Is that correct? What about the 'hard' (meant for foam) & 'soft' (meant for rubber) suspension components? Didn't the original TC5 come with the 'soft' suspension components even though it was released as a foam tire car?

Chassis components:
For converting from TC5 to TC5R
31140 TC5 FT ITF Chassis
31141 TC5 FT ITF Top Deck
31179 TC5 FT Spool Kit

Soft suspension components (only for for converting from TC5F to TC5R, I think the original TC5 suspension is the 'soft' set)
31205 TC5 Front Suspension Arm
31206 TC5 Rear Suspension Arm
31210 TC5 Caster Block, 0
31211 TC5 Caster Block, 2
31212 TC5 Caster Block, 4
31215 TC5 Steering Block Set
31218 TC5 Rear Hub, 0
31219 TC5 Rear Hub, .5
31220 TC5 Rear Hub, 1

Not sure, but which caster block and rear hub is standard with the TC5R (or all)?

you'll also need to get the aluminum outdrives for either conversion. Those are upgrades in both new kits compared to the original tc5 kit

hopefully those white plastic pieces will get their own part number for spares and such

Most rubber setups are the 4* caster block and 0* toe block. Foam is more like .5* or 1* toe blocks, 6* caster.

You may want to try hard caster blocks, it may give a different steering feel, even with soft arms.
