Default Gearing question

Hello

I'm running a Novak 4.5R on a medium technical highgrip track with 9.66 (rubber). How would you guys gear a 3.5R?

Does anyone know what size pinion and spur (64 pitch) to start out with on a 40x90 track with 57mm tires and a KD 19?

After reading through Ken Pepe's setup and comparing it to other TC5 setups for rubber on carpet from the Team Associated website, I had a few questions.

1. Should caster read -1.5 not 1.5? Noticed that all the team drivers had -2 deg or more of caster.

2. What is the rear Belt Tension Number? Should it be 8? Didnt see it on the setup.

Just got my car and gonna put this setup on it.

Also, What is the largest 48 pitch pinion that they make? I wanted to get something in the 30-32 range but wasnt sure if it was possible.

1. Yeah, it's -1.5. Nobody runs positive camber ever, so just assume -

2. I believe it's 8. the teeth on the cam should be up.

Also in Pepe's setup it said 2mm wheelbase in the front and 1 mm in the rear. Do you put the 2mm shim in the front of the front wheel or the back of it? same with the rear, do you put the 1mm shim in front or behind the rear wheel.

48 pitch pinions are indeed available in 32 teeth and beyond ... and much needed these days what with brushless and lipo and stuff! (check out some of the far east shops .. all in stock)

Thanks for the help! The setup is coming together.

Is it possible to replace the shock end ball cup with the shock mount eyelet that they use in the offroad buggies? Can we use the offroad version and cut it down to the correct length? Does Losi make one that will fit? I just hate having to undo ball cups.

Also was thinking about switching over the ball cups on the turnbuckles to XRay enclosed styles from the T2 2008 that you hold in with screws. Seems to be easier to work with than ball cups and ball ends.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Chirag
The wheelbase shim is how much spacing is in front of the arm, with the front always being closest to the front of the car. I know that sounds stupid to say, but I just want to be clear

If you look at a setup sheet, they reference everything in the drawing. It is a bit clearer than text only

a few things you could try....

take some rear toe out..

more rear down-travel..or less front..

stiffer rear spring...

what setup are you running?

Note in the above picture, Bob Stellflue, AE engineer and super-genius, has such mind power that small objects are pulled into orbit around his head. Note the Jaco rim to the right which has succumbed to his intellect vortex.

I am building a carpet / Foam tc5, I already have one that I love on rubbers, my new kit should be here tommorow, so if you can direct me to a good starting point on the setup that would be great.

Whatever Carpet Foam setup you decide on, be sure to order all the HARD suspension parts Associated recently released.
