What are R/C car launches like usually? I've never bought a kit when it was just out so I have no concept whether they'll be off the shelves on the day or they'll still be the odd few kicking about.

I've been holding off for ages in retiring the TC3. Just hope I can get hold of a TC5 in time for the Much More GP 8 - 10 of June.

Just my 2cents.
The TC5 does not cost anywhere near the next closest kit which would be the 007 at 409.00 map price. The Phi is around 450.00 and most all top Tamiya kits are in the 450.00-500.00 price range as well.

As someone else said with the TC5 you can get the kit, ITF chassis, spool and one-way for far less than one of the other kits AND you would be able to run it on all surfaces!!

You mean to tell me the TC5 stock can run on carpet w/ its 2.5mm chassis and top deck?

Yeap. Thats what the Team ran all winter and is what is on my car. Its as stiff or stiffer than my previous car that was 3.5mm thick.

I hate to say this, but 415MRE/MSXX cost about 350~400usd in Asia as we generally follow the same street price with JP (that's SRP x0.7 or 0.75). Therefore it might be true that TC5 plus chassis/2nd deck/1way is going to cost about the same with 415MRE/MSXX in US, but it definitely more expensive than JP origin EP in Asia.

I don't know what's the case in EU. But from what I saw Xray is relative cheap in EU than JP origin EP. So the price advantage of stock TC5 in US might not be advantage outside US at all.

And the bottom line is: if you can get a 350usd rubber asphalt spec kit out, wasnt that even more competitive on price than 350usd kit plus this plus that and get parts you dont need, and probably, can't even ebay them as your environment doesn't need it at all?

not saying i know exactly the consequences of making 2 kits vs 1... but just right off the cost of the production would obviously increase. management of two sets of kit parts, two different boxes to manage, more workers for assembly... quality control would have to be more careful since parts can be mixed and packaged wrong. all the little costs of making a similar yet different 2nd kit would drop down to the msrp and add to consumer cost.

the cost of the US spec kit would end up being more expensive so that both kits would cost the same... the rubber spec would invariably cost more because of either one-way, spool or both... also, in that sense those buying the rubber spec would get more for their money...

just a few blurbs... the ITF chassis components for the FT TC4 were among the cheapest carbon fiber products in RC... i'm thinking the TC5 pieces will also be of similar value.

also, at least AE thinks of those overseas in japan and europe designing purposeful parts for rubber tires and different racing situations... from what ive observed and heard its like pulling teeth trying to get a yokomo, tamiya, or hotbodies to carpet spec...

We don't even have the cars yet (most of us) so the ITF chassis isn't a big deal for me yet. Who knows, we might only need the top deck and a spool or oneway.

For me, the cost of a chassis or oneway that I have to buy once isn't a big deal. It's the cost of the parts that I break that matters. For me, $6-7 for a single X-Ray caster block is a bit much. It's just plastic...

For what its worth Horizon has the ITF for 41.49 and the top deck for 21.00. So as I said before put that on top of the 349.00 that Horizon has it listed (But it will be MUCH cheaper other places) and you can get the car, both chassis sets, spool and oneway for much less than most other cars in the US.

What about Orion/Peak Lipo 4800mah packs- has anyone tried them on the TC5, yet? It seems that the right bulkhead and top deck cover up the negative battery connector if the Orion 4800 pack is used. Can anyone please confirm this?

I think Rick has tried them and they fit but I'm not 100% sure. Maybe he can back this up?
