XRay T1M owner here. Just started racing it on an asphalt oval. Trying to figure out how to get speed with 4 cells and stock 28T motors.

Is it an open class or stock? Try messing around with gearing. They are not fast with 4 cells.

Stock class. I'm new to racing (my son is the racer) and I don't want to jump in to the 19T class yet.

I'm currently running the following setup:
Integy KOS27 stock motor
84 tooth spur
35 tooth pinion (edited)

With this setup, it is just a hair slower than the 1/10th scal cars with 6 cells and stock motors. The motor barely gets warm after 5 minute heats even with that high of gearing.

Here is what vadn1 replied in the xray forum"
"Why not change the drive ratio on the car to 1.77, it should give you a bit more speed with the same set up. Gear up on the pinion if your motor is barely warm. Make your car as light as possible, use the bulkheads from your sons FK-05 along with the light weight hubs from the fk-01 and get a full set of Titanium hex screws from speedtechrc.com, there are other parts you can strip out from the FK-05 to lighten up the T1M. The gearing and lighter weight parts might help you with more speed. The best thing you can add is lipo batteries. If you dont want to go that far with it, try some 2200 mah GP 4/5SC 2200. Hot new cell. 40 amp cell.
Use 6 of these cells should give you that extra speed and you should still be able to make the 5 min run time for most oval races."

Good stuff. I didn't know the '05 bulkheads would fit the TiM. I'll have to experiment a bit. I'm also going to look in to those cells.

My gearing is almost maxed out. I can't go any smaller on the spur as the drive belt will rub on the motor. I can go up a tooth or two more on the pinion before the motor hangs below the chassis but I can't find bigger pinions locally. The LHS just shook their head when I asked for a 32 or 33 tooth 48P pinion gear.

I did find a way last night to add a 5th cell taped on top of the battery strap. I modded 1 pack for this and I'll test it later today at the track. Yes, it will result in a higher center of gravity but this car runs so smooth on this track that it may not even feel it.

64P spurs are too small for the equivalent tooth spur. The drive belt would rub on the motor. If you go to a bigger 64p spur, then you run in to the same dilema with pinions. They just get much bigger than most stores carry.

I think these little cars were designed around 19T motors. I'll get the 27T to work until I get good enough to race against the other 19T drivers. I'm going to try to lighten the rest of the car to offset some of the weight of the 5th cell.

speedydad try the 19turn on a practice day and you'll see it's not as complicated as you think. all it is alot more power on straights because you're not going to give full throttle in the turns.plus you have alot more response(reaction) time being it is a 1/12 scale.
