[QUOTE=jsr555;10998209]Some also have a small dot, molded into the end bell next to the soldering tab. This is the positive mark.

So that's what that dot is for. Both of my motors have this dot.

Had a chance to take a better look at what is supposed to be a new kit motor for Tamiya. Also had the opportunity to run a battery with it installed in my Mini. Performance was similar to the Blackcan or Sport Tuned Motor.

This particular motor was just run in the car and no attempt was made to do any sort of "break in". On a Muchmore motor tester in the CTX mode, set to a 6 cell test, this particular example did 22,480 rpm. It will probably temp in the 100 to 110 range, but did not temp immediately after running so that's just my best guess.

Also was able to examine the motor for a bit longer, and my original assessment of 0 degrees advance was in error. Eye ball estimate is that this motor has approximately 10 degrees or so of advance, which brings it right in there with a Blackcan . It's hard to make definitive statements based on such a small sample, but it sure seems like a Blackcan with a different can

Hi Granpa,

Do you know what details are engraved on the can (e.g. 540-RS, xxx7250) etc?

Thanks.

Saw no identifying marks, numbers etc. Might make tech interesting.

Hi Granpa,

Thanks. The torque tuned initially looked like no engraving. But upon closer look there is a very very very light engraving.

Does it have four black dots at the endbell?

As I made our F1 rules to run 540 silvercan, it is still the most popular motor used for racing in our country.

Here is a short video of a seminar conducted by our fastest driver and best rc mechanic about 540 silvercans.

I'm no expert, but I have been reading a lot about this, and the Johnson motor is suppose to be faster. The Mabuchi I got from my kit runs slower forward than reverse.

Although there are genetic mutants out there, in terms of motors available right now in a store, the Johnson beats the Mabuchi hands down.

Period.

We actually sell Red Dot Johnson motors in at least five states of tune:
* Full Race
* 15K
* Custom tuned for specific race series regulations
* F1
* TCS Legal

While only the last one is OK for TCS series races, lots of club racers use one of our more robust motors for non-TCS competition.
