48 pitch vs. 64 pitch
I am getting ready to buy all new pinions and spurs and start fresh but I was wandering what is the difference between the 48 and 64? I know that the teeth count is different but which is better. I am running 1/12 scale on-road or carpet. What works the best all around? Thanks guys. Brent

Go with 64 pitch -they allow finer gearing ratios. And I think they're more efficient for run time.

Yeah i prefer 64p aswell. They are much harder to mesh but there
are better for 1/12 and all cars really.

True, while I think anyone'd be hard pressed to tell the difference in efficiency between 48 & 64 pitch gears, the difference in available gear ratios definitely favors 64 pitch, & that's what you need for 1/12 scale more than anything. You MUST have precise & fine control over the final drive ratio so you can get the right rollout for a given motor, your tires' diameter, the track layout, etc., & 64 pitch makes that a lot easier, even though they aren't quite as durable as 48 pitch & they're more difficult to get a proper mesh with. In the end, they're definitely worth it(& I even use 'em in my 1/10 scale touring car with no problems).....

Hiya mate,
I would go for the 64 dp pinion/spur combo. They do run quieter and more efficiently. Go for TiR pinions. You really can't get any better pinions.

64 pitch is more efficient thatn 48pitch. Practically speaking , it's the fine adjustment of gear ratio that is the biggest factor for most ppl.
If you run on a prepared surface then without a doubt, go for 64pitch. Some outdoors surfaces with lots of track debris are killer on 64pitch gears. In that case, go with the more durable 48. Or, if you are a heavy crasher, then depending on the car you're running 48 pitch will last longer.(talking about drivetrain shock..)
Otherwise it's 64 all the way..
