Now here is another question, do they have an upgrade package for current owners of their Avid? Better yet, are they going to consider the fact that people are all go LiPo/LiFePo instead of NiMH??

According to their Design Dept, most of the new parts can be adapted on the current chassis.
But to get all the improvement of this evolution, current Avid owners should consider buying the complete new kit and keep all the compatible parts (a lot actually) as spare, way cheaper than buying new parts one by one.
No words about "upgrade kit" only so far.

Yes, the Avid is working good on asphalt.
Different story on carpet as the steering can be very violent. But with a bit of time and adjustment, it should work ok as well.
If you have a chance to try, please let me know how it was.

Now, the only problem I have with this new version after looking at it some more, is the way the steering is setup as well as the battery tray. It does not look like it will fit a LiPo or LiFePo pack above 4600 mah. I should show you a picture of how I modified my current Avid's chassis to fit the LiPo comfortably and maintain balance of the car. Second, the steering setup. I do not like it on the current car and this current one does not look good either. One major gripe I had was how the steering linkage rubbed against the top plate. I had to search high and low for a servo arm that would work on this car that did not raise the linkage high enough to rub on the top plate. I found that the HPI Pro 4 servo arm worked perfect. But it was too weak. I feel that if Robitronic had turned the servo vertically, it would be perfect (similar to how Xray has their setup). Or better yet, have the linkage connect outside from underneath the top plate.
I think the car may still need work. But one thing I love so far is the roll center adjustments.

Looks like a lot of changes to me. The only things that look the same are the suspention arms,front knuckles,and rear hubs. All aluminum is changed, shocks are changed,shock towers are changed,upper deck is changed,steering set up is a little different, chassis is different. Looks like this car will be much better.

Yep, I guess many Avid owners met the steering linkage touching the upper deck problem. But using a normal Tamiya servo saver or even a Kimbrought can perfectly make it. No need to drill any new hole.
Also, like other chassis, you have to modify your car to adapt lipo batterie but, it's not that difficult. the main advantage if the Avid is that the top deck is high enough to receive any current high capacity Lipo batteries. One of the only issue is to find space enough to put these ugly extra weights to meet the Lipo equiped car regulations...
Where the battery technology and weight improvement can save your transmission/motor/speedo from overheating or slow reaction, then you have to put more weight to meet the same regulation as if you were using NiMH cells, where is the progress in that ?!
This is why I dislike Lipo batteries for the time being, but it's another story, for another topic...

Here are some pics of my avid set up for carpet. I can also say that the durability is awesome my bro is racing for the first time and he went to far into a turn and flipped it about 3-4 times and nothing broke. Next step for the car for me is front diff and lipo. Thanks for an awesome car

As far as LiPo and "ugly" extra weights, that is all up to the current rules setup. ROAR has recently adopted the "LiPo Only rule" now, but I get a feeling that weight requirements will change (unless I misread or skipped over it and weight requirements changed already). So as you may see, there is progress happening. It even shows with some of the new cars coming out, such as the Xray, Schumacher, and Corally Phi '09 for prime examples, that fit LiPo and LiFePo packs just fine without modifications. I had to make a major modification to the current AVID in order to get the LiPo to work, such as adding a LiPo tray. I think the designers were looking for a quick way out on this one. But I do appreciate the easier maintenance setup. They did very well on that.
The steering setup still needs plenty of work and I am kind of sad that it remained the same. But I digress on that part. I'd love to get the part numbers of the servo savers you are recommending, Slide. It does not hurt to try them out.

Got some nice news to report. I recently got my Robitronic AVID back and set the electronics back up. I put in my servo, my Tekin RS Pro ESC (pre v200 update), and a 17.5 Trinity DUO motor, and my Spektrum micro receiver.
Since my track now has asphalt, I figured why not. And boy am I glad I resurrected the car. Without even touching the setup of the car, the car was behaving like it was on RAILS!!!! Performed so well, I almost shed a tear and am glad I gave the car another shot. However, after driving around for a while, and even beating a guy that had a 13.5 motor in his car (well he was a beginner ), I am now convinced that in order for this car to work on carpet, it should be a foam car, until this new version of the AVID comes out.
Unfortunately, I do not know how it will perform on carpet, since we roll it out in December. But for now, the car is performing beautifully. And this is without a proper setup.
As I get my car to perform better, I will post my setup. When the carpet rolls out and I get a good setup, I will post my carpet foam setup.

There is no release date yet. It might not be available until mid-2010. No news on the name.
