Radio Shack has a good variety of irons that are fine for r/c electronics. www.radioshack.com

Default Soldering Irons

For soldering Battery Bars and 14-12 awg Wire, you will need Temperature AND Watts. Keeping a low wattage iron on the joint too long WILL cause damage to batteries, ESC's and plastic Motor endbells. Guaranteed!

are they reliable?
If you're looking for something cheaper like the Weller's, that's fine, but trust me in the long run you'll save more $$ with a good solid iron like a Hakko. Before I bought my Hakko I was buying the cheaper ones more often Besides, the Hakko's are rebuildable if the heating element should ever blow
