Questions?? Sparks when Connecting Battery

Hello,

I've an 1/8th scale e buggy and am new to the electric side of the hobby. I've a Mamba Monster X ESC and an GENS Ace 4s Lipo pack with deans connectors. About 20% of the time when I connect the two leads I get a spark when I get the leads close to each other right before connection.

Is this normal? Am I doing anything wrong? No damage that I can tell has occurred to my ECS or battery yet.

Yes. Completely normal. Some seem to spark more then others. Should see the spark on a 8s system.

You can get a connector that eliminates this sparking. Look for XT90-S.

It has a resistor built in that prevents sparking when a battery is connected.

thanks for the suggestion. For now I'll stick with Deans I think but may switch over later. It doesn't really bother me. I just wanted to be sure it wasn't going to damage anything.

You see this on almost all electric vehicles, it certainly happens on my 1/10th scale cars. I think it is due to the ESC capacitors initially charging when connected to power.
