I think you will be happy with the laydown. May need to add some rear weight with the pivot for looser conditions. You can convert the 4.0 to standup very easy if you think that is the way to go after trying the laydown.

I ran my TLR 22 4.0 laydown on an outdoor wet track with holeshots. Added the TLR 25 gram weight plate under the gearbox and kept the brass RF hinge pin holder. Shockingly, got very good grip. didn't want to change to much on the setup, as I run on med/hi bite clay and just wanted to add some weight. Buggy was awesome. If I were running that track more regularly, I would have added 0.5 degrees of toe to total 3.5 degrees as Frank has suggested. Would have been money I suspect. Also can lay the shock down in on the rear tower for some sidebite, but I would try it laydown.

Does the 4.0 SR kit come with the parts to run the Laydown tranny raised or lowered like the original 4.0 kit? plus the +3.5 rear hubs? I mostly run 17.5 class with my 3.0 with the original standup tranny. Just wanted to make sure I have the same chassis adjustments as the normal 4.0 kit (minus the option to run the standup tranny parts in the box)

Finally got a chance to run my 4.0's this weekend at round one of Tyler Hook's Southern Winter Payout Series. Was a little nervous since I hadn't had any track time with the cars but they were on point straight from the get go. Track was medium traction until mains and the cars were consistent all the way through. TQ and 1st in 17.5 and qualified 5th in the super stacked mod buggy A main and ended up 6th I think. I ran my super stock (13.5) car in the mod main and actually fast lapped the field in Q1 and Q2 but the car seemed to lose a little steering (initial and mid) once the track gripped up which hurt me in the mains as I traction rolled a couple times in A1 trying to hustle the car through the corner while running 2nd. All in all, really good first outing with the 4.0's!

Your buggy looked super fast. Unfortunately I did horrible in 4wd mod lol, should have ran my 4.0 in 17.5. I though the track was pretty tough myself, it definitely favored stock buggys.

Thank you! Track was super tight but did provide some really close racing. I had a ton of fun. I'll be back up that way soon.

The SR diff saver rings will hit the camber block if running the diff high, which is why we didn't include the +3 hubs. The SR outdrives can work on carpet/astro, but aren't really intended for it, as they may not be durable enough for those surfaces. The 4.0 SR is recommended for clay/dirt 17.5 racing. For Mod dirt/clay/astro/carprt or 17.5 astro/carpet racing, we recommend to original 22 4.0 kit.

What is the purpose of the new steering rack being tested? Is this just for carpet (to not have to flip cranks)? thx - wondering if I should wait before upgrading

flipped cranks with the 2.0 spindle is unbeleivably good on carpet

Is there a way to achieve a similar setup without flipping the cranks? Does the 2.0 spindle sit lower? Perhaps instead of 4mm on top of existing spindle 3mm top 1mm bottom to take away some turn in? Just a lot of work

you flip the cranks to get a particular bump steer setting which is easy takes 5 minutes, then you can use the 4.0 spindles with #1 and #3 ackerman inserts.

the reason for using the 2.0 spindles is to get a completely different ackerman curve that is not possible with the 4.0 spindles, it just plain works really good on carpet, now you will need to trim away a large chunk of the bottom leg of the spindle, enough to get 5mm of spacers above the hub, this took around 15 minutes.
