Default Motor Fans

Do these fans really keep the internals of the motor cool? Seems like more of a band-aid thing to me.

If you get a good one they do help quite a bit. Especially if you're running a 4wd short course truck or an e-buggy lite car with 1/10 electronics.

I run a WTF fan on my b6d & Losi 4wd. I don't over gear, but sometimes driving the car harder seems increase Temps. The fan does keep the motor very cool, was just wondering if that's the temp of the can AND internals combined

Well the only way to get internal temps is using some sort of probe, which some motor and ESC combos have built into their circuitry which does give you internal temps

But regardless once the can itself gets to 150f, you can bet the internals are probably closer to 170f. So generally I try to stay at or below 150f to be safe. Same with the ESC. If my digital thermometer reads over 150f on the heatsink I will change gearing accordingly.

Yes it does. I use a temp gun AND the esc's motor temp readings. It lowers the internal 10 deg cooler.

to me that's old school thinking. if the temp of the can is cooler, the internals can dissipate more heat. are the internals hotter than the can? of course, but that's the same whether you run a fan or not.
