Bob B 8/10/17 - Should I start with the kit setup?
The kit setup is a great place to start. One other option that many of us start with is Joe's rough track setup. You can find that setup here
In order to run it you need 3x2.1 pistons and 3x2.0 pistons. (They are marked on the sheet as 3.1 and 3.0).

Matt W 7/7/17 - What is overdrive and when should I use it?
The NB48.4 comes stock with a 12t pinion (TKR8152) and the 39t ring (TKR8151) in both the front and rear and the EB48.4 has a 12t pinion (TKR8152B) and the 40t ring (TKR8151B) in both the front and rear.

The two sets of gears are used to overdrive the front of the EBs or underdrive the rear of the NBs. If you have both vehicles and want to try underdrive it's as easy as swapping the front diff and pinion of the EB and the rear diff and pinion of the NB. Underdrive helps on very loose tracks, when you need more on power steering or if the rear of the car feels loose.

Tips and Tricks
Setup Sheets:
Setup sheets for all Tekno RC vehicles can be found here. Please be sure to try our recommended setup. It works very well on most tracks.

Warranty Policy:

Tekno RC is the only company in the industry that will give 50% off of parts if returned to them using the General Warranty return policy found on their website. The parts can be lightly used or completely abused, as long as the part is still being produced it's covered!

Piston Drills:

Some of our setups recommend using pistons that are enlarged. For instance 4x1.9 or 3x2.0. To drill the pistons we recommend the following:
GMK Supply Piston Drill Set
16PC Metric Bit Set Metric Sizes 2.00 to 3.00 MM.

hello everyone. i have RC8.2E FT and i bought tekno et48.3 also with used tekin rx8 esc and the novak hd8 and a friend of mine building it these days.

i been running my rc8.2e with leopard 2650kv motor and hobbywing esc on 5s setup without problems for two years. (21/46 for 60MPH speed)

from what i know as long you dont pass the 50k rpm the motor should be fine.

so i dont understand why a 1900kv motor will be rated as max 4s..
maybe its because the dynamic timing? i always set it to timing 0.

anyway, can it take 5s on timing 0 without problems? (aiming for 50mph with 5s on truggy).

It's easy enough to do, but will cost you a lot $$. Better off to buy the kit new or used.

I figured. So the next question....is the .4 THAT much better? Or can the .3 still be competitive? Coming out of the SC world into e buggies.....

Is the .4 that much better than the .3?

Ackerman arm, front hubs and spindles, steering arms/servo saver, A/B/C/D blocks, front and rear arms, rear hubs, Universals, F/R diff pinion and ring gear. It's a lot of stuff. If you went to amain and bought it all you'd be damn near at the price of a new kit.

You forgot chassis. The new pivot blocks / arms move the droop screws out further so they won't work on the old chassis.

The .4 improves on the .3 in the same way the .3 improved on the .2. It's more stable, easier to drive fast, handles rough stuff better, and inspires more confidence when driving.

Looking at possibly running 1/8 ebuggy next outdoor season and had a couple of questions.

#1 Used vs New - I know that Tekno makes a nearly indestructible product, but when it comes to wear, does the EB48.4 hold up well enough to make buying used worth it? I hate overly sloppy stuff, or worn outdrives, so lately I've been buying most stuff new.

#2 EB48.5 - Looks like the EB48 is on a roughly 1.5ish year cycle (.4 Dec16, .3 Jun15, .2 Aug13, EB48 May12), any hints if we will see a .5 next spring?

Finding a lightly used .4 could save a good amount for getting into the class. Tekno's historically hold up very well. I've ran mine all season and have barely noticed and wear on my out drives.

That said, being new to tekno, buying and building is a great experience. I would probably choose this option. Building it also show's you how to repair/replace stuff.

I don't expect a new ebuggy for a while. IMHO they got this one right, and it can be setup to any driving style.

I have ran mine this season and replaced the front drive shaft twice and front gearbox because I over tightened the screws. That's been everything so far.

As others have said, the Tekno stuff holds up really well, so used isn't generally an issue. The kit build of the Teknos is amazing though compared to pretty close to anything else, so definitely not something to shy away from, but to enjoy.

For number 2, that has kinda happened, but there is no "cycle" for Tekno. They don't say "we need a new car at X time" like many other companies do. They come out with something when they have decided they have something much better. With the wheeler out now, and everybody pretty happy with both the buggy and truggy, I would GUESS that the next "point" whatever for any vehicle would just be like the EB48.2 was, an update that includes common upgrade options that have been found at that point (though, there's almost nothing in the way of upgrades that people are getting beyond what's in the kit now for the buggy). So, don't fear the new release, or a release cycle. Find something affordable that you will enjoy and have at it.

Right now personally I think the next thing I would like to see tekno do is standardize the vehicles they have to the current ".4" spec where possible. So vehicles like the SCT410.3/EB48SL and ET48.3 get the various upgrades that the EB48.4 has (where applicable) to get them to a .4 spec.
offroad dude and EbbTide like this.

Thanks for the great insights! Now if I can stop blowing my hobby budget on quads, I'll be able to get set up for next spring, haha!
