New Truck and Motor

New Truck and Motor
Hello all, I recently purchased a electric truck I had back when I was a little bit younger
It's the Tamiya Desert Fielder. I also purchased the castle creations sidewinder sct, along with the duratrax 5000 mAh 7.4 LiPo battery. Using a Futaba Skyport 4 channel radio if that helps.
Got everything charged and assembled. When I go to apply throttle, it seems to go like a bat outta h*ll and faster as I apply more throttle. I thought the speed was a little more smooth, unless I'm wrong. Steering servo is working just fine. I have tried castlelink and programming it the old fashioned way (throttle at full when turning on)
any advice?

The Castle system you have is not sensored and those tend to cog and not be very smooth at slow speeds. Honestly, a Castle motor (any of them) is way too much power for your truck. If you want to stay with your current Castle ESC, I'd look for a 3000kv motor or less. If it was me, I'd put the stock ESC back in it and grab a Tamiya GT Tuned or Super Stock BZ brushed motor.

Thanks for the advice, I remember these trucks not having much power back in the day (brushed motors) It didn't come with an ESC. But I actually had it on the stand and when I went out and tried it, it worked a lot better being on its wheels (my mistake) Haven't been in the game for almost a decade.

Have u gone through the process of calibrating the esc to the transmitter? It's the one where you hold a button down on the esc til it blips, then hold full throttle til it blips, then full brake- til it blips. If u haven't done this, that would be why the throttle is not smooth. Also I would be careful running a powerful brushless thing in that truck as I don't think it has a slipper- which would strip your gears pretty quick. The power needs to come on very smooth

It does not have a slipper that I'm aware of. I do have spare parts. I also did calibrate the controller like you said. The issue was the truck was on the stand and not on its wheels. I reduced the power to 60% with the punch at 100% through CastleLink. Fast enough for my liking.
Thanks for the help and advice
