Exclamation XX-4 Forum

I've decided to start this post. I just got back into RC after a 7 year break. I got an xxx-4 and a xx-4. I don't race yet, as I'm still honing my tech skills and driving skills. Hopefully I will get to the track (indoor - dirt) and do some practice.

Like someone mentioned in another post, I don't think the xx-4 is all that bad to work on. I've had the whole thing apart in no time. It's just screws men. Grab the driver and twist

I'd like people to perhaps put up what mods they've done to their vehicle if any and any other pertainent info on this car. Hop ups, spares suggestions.

As I said, I'm no racer, but I've got both cars and I can say this, the xx-4 is much more stable. I can't flip the thing. All the xxx-4 does is flip over. I'm not sure, but I think the xx-4 has a longer wheelbase if I'm not mistaken. I've got a GTB 5.5 in the XX-4 right now and the thing is just scary fast. I'm in the process of building another xx-4 from kit, just so I have a spare.

Somebody asked about the ss 5800 and will it fit in the xx-4. Here's the answer. However if you have the motor leads facing top, the body will hit. I mount my motor so that the solder tabs are at like 5:00 looking at the right side of the motor. They barely hit the chassis with a 17, 18T pinion, I put some electrical tape tripled up on the floor of the chassis just for safe measure.

Here's with the GTB 5.5 in it. Plenty of room

does anyone have the re-released xx-4?

I really want to pick one up, but I read on another website that there are no threaded shock bodies, cvd's/lcd's, or different belts.

I really don't want to believe this until someone who owns a new one tells me its true.

I have a re-release, the only thing they changed was they put the HD thrust bearings in there.
It does come with the threaded shocks, good shafts and so on.
The only complaint is the standard hingepins.
The belts are the same, but built and mainteneced properly this car can have less rolling resistance than the xxx4.

I just picked up a new re-released kit (actually heading over to the PO in a few minutes to pick it up literally). I can't wait to get started on the build. It will be a return to 4wd for me as well as off road racing, from the late 80s.

Considering the age of this car, as well as the obvious fact that they not only are still competing but still winning, what does the bare kit need in the way of upgrades? I'm happy that my recently built XXX BK2 really needed very few things out of the box to be where the team guys have them set up. I have heard this car is even closer, out of the box.

Also, I have been having difficulty tracking down Losi shock oils in half weights. Does anyone know who carries them online?

Oh, and let me throw the first plea out there to Losi to pull out a short run Limited, Limited Edition Class 8 Ford truck body like they used to have for this chassis.

This is one indestructable buggy. Mine is the Worlds Edition. I landed jumps on one front wheel, hit pipe that would had rendered my BK2 sidelined, and still won my first FWD Mod race. I am going to name the car "Timex". I had more fun with this car. The only hop up that I could see was most of the "ball cups" were captured ends. I may buy the new re-release for my birthday.

Do any of the XX4 vets believe that front aluminum CVDs are a good purchase for this car?

You only need to upgrade to Aluminium CVD's on the front if you are intending on running a one-way front diff otherwise the stock items are fine, don't think that the lcd's are going to be released before the end of January

Hey Apex, I still have Truck body and mount kit for mine, still looks superb !!

My XX4 WE is an original but has most of the good hop ups including the HG Titanium main shaft and a bunch of Trinity parts, still hasn't been run yet though, although it is at least now built and just awaiting the arrival of my 5.5 brushless which by the looks of things will fit better than in my ZX-5 !

Hi Frank, I just learned that they have a indoor dirt track. What a loser I am. Out of the loop. Yeah, I buy most of my parts and some electronics up there. Todd is a super cool guy, and knows his stuff and always has parts.

I plan on racing once I get my head out of my ***

I just built up a new xx-4 we and I'm a bit disappointed that I had to break out the dremel a couple times. Once to clear the steering channel to allow the steering mechanism to clear and a couple other minor things. I junked all the included dog bonz and whatnot and replaced them with MIP's. I don't care if it's a tad heavier, I would rather have it not break. I'm a little mad at the ammount of hacking to get a front brace installed. Well that's easy, except that the front bumper doesn't fit flush with the bulkhead.

Oh well, I tend to be too much a perfectionist. I'll post some losi porn later on, so get your dirty socks ready.
