1) put inner bearing in hub
2) slide large shim over axle all the way up to the back of the axle
3) slide axle/bone into hub carrier
4) slide small shim onto axle through hub carrier
5) push outter bearing into hub carrier

using that i'm able to put my normal male silverback gorilla wheel nut tightening job and there's no binding. in the pictures that come with the shims (the pic socket posted) it seems like they want you to slide both shims onto the axle before sliding the axle into the hub carrier and like i said, that doesn't work.

I've traditionally done the diff screw head on the left side (driver's side), but have since switched to the Right side (passenger side) regardless of transmission type (3 gear RM vs 3 gear MM and 4 gear MM).

Kdub (Kurt Wenger, former AE designer) had this to say on the matter:

The right rear is the way the AE manuals state (or used to state). It really shouldn't matter since you go around turns both left and right.

if you had to pick one version of the vehicle and add something simple to it (say either laydown transmission or stand up transmission dependent on surface), what version of the car would you get to use on both carpet and old school dirt conditions?

I am thinking the B6D and the laydown tranny maybe?

Way to many compromises,I would just pick up one of the loaded stupid cheap
B5ms as a dirt car and get a B6 for carpet.

Good answer. I am in a similar situation. I decided on the B6 due to the fact that I would run a laydown transmission anyway. It looks as though Spencer Rivkin is running his B6 versus the B6D. He has done a few things like shock tower changes and the front arm changes, but he is primarily stuck with the car that he first got which was the B6. As he is the world champion his setup works for me.

Yes, but what diff is Spencer running?

For medium to high traction dirt clay it seems cheaper to go with the D and buy the lay down parts rather than buy the b6 and then buy the D parts.

It seems like the most popular car will be the b6D with lay down, ball diff and flat front arms.

ok...if you only want one car....It does not matter. you are going to want a gear diff for carpet, and that wont be awesome on dirt. Figure out where you plan to spend most of your time. and buy that car. I would personally get the 4 gear stand up for dirt outdoor. since neither car comes with that, then the diff will be a big decider. you will need a gear diff for carpet....and a gear diff can be made to work ok outdoors. might need a fluid change. Based on that....I would say get the carpet car if you plan to spend more than 60% of your time on carpet. and buy the 4 gear diff box. maybe even build a complete gear box for and easy swap. all depends on the prep time between tracks.

spencer basically had something closer to a b6d. flat arms, flat tower and ball diff.

Ok, brent said this in the best possible way, and this should be on the first page.

There are 3 main differences in the 2 cars.
-Gear Diff / Ball diff.
-Front flat/gulwing arms and tower
-Laydown/3 gear stand up.

Pic 2 of the 3 that you want and buy the kit that comes with those. Very simple.

How about this....Posted to B6Nation by Kody Numedahl:

There seems to be some confusion about which car to buy between the B6 and B6D. A lay down gear box isn't the only difference between the two kits. The B6 also comes with a gear diff and gull-wing arms/tower. I attached a photo showing some common configurations that drivers will want to run and which kit I would recommend for each.

Crazy. I per-ordered two days after they became available and mine shows mid-july as well.

They probably got an updated delivery date and knowing Associated will not deliver these in June and will miss like everything else.

But when Tower gets the shipment in of these 2 kits they will never go out of stock for like a half a year. They get so many.

As to which kit to buy, the way Brent explained it (which wildcat shared) is pretty spot on. To me it's this simple:

The only reason to buy the B6 is if you plan to run carpet or turf, that's it!

For any other surface including switching back and forth between dirt/turf/carpet etc buy the B6D and any parts to convert as it'll be cheaper and easier.
