It doesn't look that different to me to the RB6.6. Am I reading it right when it sounds like its more for high grip carpet rather than dirt tracks?

Did some more reading and yep, high grip carpet car. It looks like it comes with the 3 gear laydown trans and the other motor positions can be achieved with option parts. Hopefully they go down the Associated route and offer carpert and dirt versions. The thing that attracted me to the 6.6 was the fact that it came with everything you needed for all tracks but this one has gone very specific. I guess it just reflects the fact that most tracks are going to carpet and dirt tracks aren't as popular.

Do you think it will be worth waiting to see if they release a RB7 version suited to dirt and low grip conditions, or do I jsut pick up a RB6.6 while they are still on sale?

If you watch the youtube video, they actually seem to have made this kit viable for all tracks. It even comes with a ball diff with a gear diff as an option. And ball diffs if I'm not mistaken are mostly preferred for dirt drivers.

Yah, they’re showing it with electrons running on an indoor dirt track, so not sure where you guys are getting this “carpet-only” thing. If anything, it’s a dirt car.

I was reading Kyosho's own description which says its at home on high grip tracks.
http://rc.kyosho.com/en/ultima-rb7/

And looking at the fact it only comes with a laydown trans, the others are option parts. True the ball diff is usually a low-med grip option, not sure why it doesn't come with the gear diff standard, or the stand up trans standard with the ball diff.

Some of the other changes (resin shock caps?) are apparently better for carpet according to their own marketing material

Anyway, I'll wait amd see once the reviews come out. I'm planning on running my 6.6 for at least another season anyway

I'm going to stick with my RB6.6. But I do want a few of the parts. Like the waterfall, will be much easier to solder the motor wires now.
