Which particular gear? The diff gear or the Idler gear?

The only real way to help prevent this in the future is by, loosening your slipper clutch a little. This is similiar to traction control on some fullsize cars.

its the small step on the compound diff gear that keeps stripping.
but when i took the diff a part last time the gear was distroyed. and when i took it appart this time, the gear was fine but it made the same sound as it did last time and when i tried to drive it it wouldent move, just the spur would spin.
