Well, first off I would make sure that your local hobby shop stocks parts for what every you buy. Ofna sales several rtr buggies that are under $400. You can also find a kysho rtr 7.5 for under $400 as well. The ofna 9.5 will probly be your best bet for something that you can compete with on the track. It is a good chasis and the motor shouldn't limit you too much.

lol a ofna 9.5 is not for sale no more. and parts will be scarce. also is not race legal. (fuel tank size and the rtr engine)
the 7.5rtr is well a peice of crap.
if you want a rtr that you maybe able to race with, go with a Jammin rtr or a hyper7.
or look in the forsale section, you should be able to pick up a mbx5 or k3 or something for that price
