1/8 ebuggy motor/esc sub $200 setups
#16
Im gonna go with the 1900 motor and a couple of his batteries. But I didn't see on his site what the shaft size is. Are these standard or can they vary? I need to place a order to get some of the other bits coming like a HW esc and a few spares for the mp9

Are there any other sources for SMC batteries? I don't know the status and availability of the new 5200 4s. And I would like to get this together next week. I have tried calling several times but get VM. Sent him a email today.

Does everyone think the SCT Pro / SMC 1900 combo beats the Castle Sidewinder 8th combo? SMC is sensored which is nice.

I run (and a lot of my friends) this "cheap" comibination from HK
1. TrackStar 6S 150A genII ESC (it's a rebrand of SkyRC Toro TS150A)
About 80USD + 15USD for program card
2. TrackStar 1/8th Sensored Brushless Motor 1900KV
Motor size is 4270, sensored, 4S, 120A
About 60USD
3. Goteck HB2621S HV Servo
It HV, but on 6V it still does 15kg and 0,08s
About 50USD
Total is about 210USD.
Performance if very close or equal to Tekin, Orion, etc.
Quality hmm. Didn't have any problems till now, but you never know....

Fun
I bought these just to try; I can swing a Tekin combo, but I really want to see if this stuff is good enough for "fun". I'm not racing, just outside at the park next door to my house. If it ends up being crap I may try Hobbywing or Xerun.

I ran both of those combos last year. The 2250 is a lot of motor. It's smooth but super fast. I always try to run 1900 kv motors but got the 2250 for a good deal from a friend and I was surprised. It wasn't an out of control monster. Seemed to run fairly cool too. The 1900 is easier to drive and has more than enough power. Can't go wrong with either one imo, but I would lean towards the 1900 for racing.

Thanks for the very specific experience. I won't be racing, just playing. Do you still think the 2250 is too much.....seems like the 1900 might be better suited to this platform though, especially since I don't have a ton of experience with higher performance vehicles.

Man, hunt around on eBay. I found killer deals on an Orion R8X Pro (I think that's the name of it, I get confused by all of the different brands monikers for their 1/8 stuff) for $150 brand new and a Reedy 2100kv motor, brand new, for $75. There's some deals out there. Scan the classsifieds here, you may find some deals as well.

So would the below work for any 1/8 buggy, even though it was made for associated. Problem with eBay is I don't really know what to look for as a newby.
Associated 1/8 Rival MT * REEDY 1515-SL 2000kV BRUSHLESS MOTOR $52, buy it now.
