Oh sure....your just paying the extra premium to cover their advertising and drivers wages!

BTW my stomach doesn't know the difference if I fed it Mc Donalds or a gourmet burger, as long as its full!

When you get into mod 4wd range (I run a 6.5 SP 3.0) I don't see much, if any disadvantage in running a cheaper motor, as you do a bunch of your tuning through ESC settings anyway. I run an Orion VST 8.5 in my 2wd (with boost) and a Speed Passion 3.0 6.5 in my 4wd (minimal ESC timing). I would not hesitate to buy one of the new Trackstars if I was in the market for a new motor (or buy a used name brand one)

You're running on Astro. If you're boosting an 8.5, I'm guessing a smooth feel isn't really a top priority with the grip level you have. A little maybe but not like a med/low grip dirt track back in the states...?

Take the brands and the cost out of the discussion for a second and look back at the OP's question, "Best mod motor". I can't say what's the "best" because that all depends on what you want and what each person can "feel". You could give some people 10 different 8.5 motors, let them test them all in a 2wd buggy and they may not be able to tell and difference at all. Another person might be able to pick out 2-3 that simply "feel" better than the rest.

What I CAN tell you is that X wind motors from 10 different manufacturers are not all the same and there IS a difference.

Are Trackstar motors a good deal for the price, they certainly seem to be. Are they the BEST, I have my doubts.

Besides that, when you support Hobbyking and all it's reverse engineered knock off products, you support China and it's complete disregard for copy rights and patents. But that's a different topic

The problem is, there's no way to quantify the differences. Even with a brand recognized for quality and a locally positive reputation for performance, there's no guarantee that your (arbitrary user) setup will yield the same result that someone else experienced.

So what makes Brand A's motor smoother or more efficient over a generic brand who obviously had their motor made in the same factory?

"all it's reverse engineered knock off products, you support China"

Why do we believe that Brand A's design is unique, instead of a re-branded & slightly re-profiled version of the motor TrackStar is selling? It's more likely that Brand A is benefiting from someone else' existing engineering.

All of the US/Euro makes are having their products made in China, so you're supporting China's manufacturing sector no matter who's product you choose.

We run Novak Vulcan motors with Tekin ESCs. The Vulcan Outlaw motor is great for mod SCT, especially with a Tekin RS Gen 2 speedo. Both made in California

It isn't the motor that makes a car fast, it's the driver.
