RadioShack Aftershock R/C Truck Lost Tx what are my options?

just got this RadioShack Aftershock 4wd as a freebie, unfortunately it has no transmitter, the manual says its 27.145mhz

My question is: Should I just replace the radio and start with a 2.4ghz rx/tx?

Easiest thing to do would be to look for a 27mhz transmitter from a RTR on eBay and then buy the corresponding crystal. Putting in a 2.4ghz system might take a fair amount of work, as most of the Radio Shack type vehicles have the speed controller and receiver as one unit.
