I run on high bite damp smooth clay and think the conversation would help on my surface but from what I'm reading I need to buy the lay down kit tlr338004. And the dirt gear case tlr332063. But do I really need both from what I've read the dirt case is 1-2mm higher anyway and u don't use the +3mm hubs or the front pivot hrc or Hrc mod. So is the dirt lay down kit tlr332063 is all that's needed to get me a lay down set up that's suited for clay With the components and car I already have. And if I only get the dirt case is there any problems that will need to be addressed IE.. bone plunge . I do know I'll need 1mm spacers on the waterfall to clear the battery. Thanks guys really trying to get my head around this.
Franks response: Laydown Conversion will work great by itself. You run the aluminum +3mm hubs, the diff is +3.5mm, and you run the HRC front setup. Just follow a setup sheet from tlracing.com (Frank Root). Dirt Tranny has the diff at the same height as the standard tranny case, and works with the standard plastic hubs. Both are +/- 0mm from stock. When you run this, no need to run the HRC front mod either. I've found the stock laydown conversion parts to work great for most tracks. The dirt tranny is a great tuning option, but definitely not 'required'. K.King Something I made, pretty basic. Just to give people an idea.

People have been asking for a laid down transmission for carpet and astro applications and there are no news from TLR yet, so i am guessing this is this one individuals answer to it until TLR produces one for the general public. Why he chose YZ2 could be bcause it might be the only one that fits with minimal modifications.

Does anybody have any tips on getting the slipper adjusted close on the first try? It's gonna be with a 17.5 motor setup for a high bite clay indoor track

Make sure the diff is tightened per the assembly instructions, then set the slipper tight enough that it's hard to turn with your right thumb while holding the wheels stationary. Put a fully charged battery in, hold the wheels down on the table and give it a burst at full throttle. The slipper should slip easily. Tighten the nut 1/2 turn at a time while repeating the full throttle jab. You want the slipper to slip while the front of the car rides off of the table and the diff should NOT slip. This setting will protect the diff, while giving you max drive. You should not need to mess with it again unless you want to run it looser as a tuning option.

SMC also sells excellent shorty packs that are always recommended here for $33 apiece.
I run Spektrum S6040 servos (now discontinued) in all my 1/10 stuff and I've found several of them here in the for-sale section for ~$45-50.
Everybody has their own preferences and recommendations but I've always had good luck with Spektrum, Airtronics, Novak, Trinity, and SMC gear.

Hold the rear wheels stationary and spin the spur by hand. Tighten the slipper until the spur is hard to turn. that will get you close. to fine tune it put the car down on the track and go full throttle and listen for it to slip. should slip for about a foot or so. for stock some use eliminator or tighten it down all the way, did not like that setup myself. Holding the rear wheels and giving the throttle full pull to lift the front wheels is not a good way to check stock motors. stock motors don't really have the punch to use the front wheel pull off the ground test.

motors are all pretty close in price. I have liked Tekin, Reedy, and Schuur speed for motors. Savox 1258 servo is about 60. lots of times you can find a good price for a gently used servo

Imo, dual rates work better, as you keep your entire trigger pull. EPA just limited the max top speed, but the last little bit of trigger pull will do nothing. D/R will also soften up the bottom end and make a hot motor easier to drive. That has been my experience with radio tuning.
