Cub86 posted the question: Hi. I'm struggling to understand the lay down situation. I run on high bite damp smooth clay and think the conversation would help on my surface but from what I'm reading I need to buy the lay down kit tlr338004. And the dirt gear case tlr332063. But do I really need both from what I've read the dirt case is 1-2mm higher anyway and u don't use the +3mm hubs or the front pivot hrc or Hrc mod. So is the dirt lay down kit tlr332063 is all that's needed to get me a lay down set up that's suited for clay With the components and car I already have. And if I only get the dirt case is there any problems that will need to be addressed IE.. bone plunge . I do know I'll need 1mm spacers on the waterfall to clear the battery. Thanks guys really trying to get my head around this.

Franks response:
Laydown Conversion will work great by itself. You run the aluminum +3mm hubs, the diff is +3.5mm, and you run the HRC front setup. Just follow a setup sheet from tlracing.com (Frank Root).

Dirt Tranny has the diff at the same height as the standard tranny case, and works with the standard plastic hubs. Both are +/- 0mm from stock. When you run this, no need to run the HRC front mod either.

I've found the stock laydown conversion parts to work great for most tracks. The dirt tranny is a great tuning option, but definitely not 'required'.

Something I made, pretty basic. Just to give people an idea.

Frank, first off thanks for being active and helping/informing. Can't wait to get my hands on this beast. Couple questions...will my 22 2.0 aluminum rear hubs work on the 3.0? And will my jconcepts Ti front axles work on the 3.0? Also will setup sheets be released same time as kit or soon after? Thanks much

i got a chance to see this car in action last night at coyote hobbies raceway in victorville. all i can say is that the car impressed me. was going to buy a b5m lite tomorrow for redy race prep and i decided to hold off to buy this instead, much higher quality of parts and a far better design from an engineering stand point. ive been in the hobby for 4 years now and always ran AE, but this car has changed that

I'm curious to understand why a shorter front arm would be better in someconditions... The rest of the geometry beign the same, you would intuitively think that a wider front track would always be more stable, no? Why not always design to max ROAR width front and rear?
In the manual a page was included highlighting what the VLA changes do, and why you would want them!

Thanks Frank, unfortunately I only get to go on the weekends. And quite frankly, JC Johnson can make a box stock slash with outdoor tires look good. He's a beast with every car I have seen him drive. He's a quality guy to have on your team. Excited to see him run the 3.0.

I believe Frank said earlier that this was the reason why they changed the hex, so I would say yes.

VLA doesn't change track width, only the outer suspension pivot point, which affects the geometry and handling.

Yes, alum rear hubs will work.
Yes, they will fit, but we will not have 10mm wheels forever, a limited supply then you'll need to switch to 12mm. We already have 12mm aluminum front axles on their way with the cars.
Probably before it ships, that's the goal.

Not sure that rule is going to go through. It would make several manufacturers design new front suspensions for the wheel off-set. None of the manufacturers are happy about it, and this may not come to fruition.

I also added a bit to the first post, so be sure to check that out!
Ah, makes sense. Thanks man!
