Cub86 posted the question: Hi. I'm struggling to understand the lay down situation. I run on high bite damp smooth clay and think the conversation would help on my surface but from what I'm reading I need to buy the lay down kit tlr338004. And the dirt gear case tlr332063. But do I really need both from what I've read the dirt case is 1-2mm higher anyway and u don't use the +3mm hubs or the front pivot hrc or Hrc mod. So is the dirt lay down kit tlr332063 is all that's needed to get me a lay down set up that's suited for clay With the components and car I already have. And if I only get the dirt case is there any problems that will need to be addressed IE.. bone plunge . I do know I'll need 1mm spacers on the waterfall to clear the battery. Thanks guys really trying to get my head around this.

Franks response:
Laydown Conversion will work great by itself. You run the aluminum +3mm hubs, the diff is +3.5mm, and you run the HRC front setup. Just follow a setup sheet from tlracing.com (Frank Root).

Dirt Tranny has the diff at the same height as the standard tranny case, and works with the standard plastic hubs. Both are +/- 0mm from stock. When you run this, no need to run the HRC front mod either.

I've found the stock laydown conversion parts to work great for most tracks. The dirt tranny is a great tuning option, but definitely not 'required'.

Something I made, pretty basic. Just to give people an idea.

Finally got to see this car on a bumpy and low bite outdoor track.

Looks amazing. Even on low bite it was hooked, and turned very well. I'm a fan.

Would it be a disadvantage to run a 76 tooth spur with a 17.5 or 13.5 motor?

No, you might even want to run a 70T spur with a 17.5...

It's all good. A lot of the parts transfer over, and you'll still enjoy the 2.0.

A guy at my track has one... But haven't crossed race days with him yet. BUUTT...looking at race results, it looks like he is blistering fast with it. As a matter of fact, I just looked through the last couple weeks worth, and it looks like he is the only driver, and the only chassis, to hit 24 laps on our current layout.

I think he's only had the car for a week or so and didn't race it in the points series. I happen to see him Monday night and he was putting up consistent times in the high 15s. He looked awesome!

It's got me thinking...

Your not the only one. I bought a new -2.5 chassis and bell crank steering early spring and just got around this last weekend installing it all( ran sct pro4 all summer). I did not expect to see the 3.0 on the shelf so soon. I'm thinking about selling her now that it looks brand new. At the same time I just got done doing a Houdini of an electronics install because of that cab forward body. There is no way I'm taking all that stuff out now. After buying almost every hop up I stand to lose more selling it than what a conversion cost. I'll wait till someone starts parting a new kit on the auction sites and I'll pick up the 3.0 parts. I could get enough cash for the conversion just selling my 2.0 spare parts and custom painted cab forward bodies that wont fit the 3.0 anyway. I can be patient and wait. I totally suck at buggy anyway. It's more of fun time than serious racing in this class for me anyway. There are a lot of good drivers here in Ohio and I'm lucky just to get out of their way. I've had a lot of practice of giving a clean pass. But I do take pride in my gear and like to have top quality, cutting edge stuff. I love the engineering side of all this and can't wait to drive a new 3.0 but it can wait. Drive time is more beneficial to me right now.

Will the Schelle or Avid slipper system work?

If I am not mistaken... it looks like he has instantly picked up a full lap with just the new car. Amazing.
