Cub86 posted the question: Hi. I'm struggling to understand the lay down situation. I run on high bite damp smooth clay and think the conversation would help on my surface but from what I'm reading I need to buy the lay down kit tlr338004. And the dirt gear case tlr332063. But do I really need both from what I've read the dirt case is 1-2mm higher anyway and u don't use the +3mm hubs or the front pivot hrc or Hrc mod. So is the dirt lay down kit tlr332063 is all that's needed to get me a lay down set up that's suited for clay With the components and car I already have. And if I only get the dirt case is there any problems that will need to be addressed IE.. bone plunge . I do know I'll need 1mm spacers on the waterfall to clear the battery. Thanks guys really trying to get my head around this.

Franks response:
Laydown Conversion will work great by itself. You run the aluminum +3mm hubs, the diff is +3.5mm, and you run the HRC front setup. Just follow a setup sheet from tlracing.com (Frank Root).

Dirt Tranny has the diff at the same height as the standard tranny case, and works with the standard plastic hubs. Both are +/- 0mm from stock. When you run this, no need to run the HRC front mod either.

I've found the stock laydown conversion parts to work great for most tracks. The dirt tranny is a great tuning option, but definitely not 'required'.

K.King
Something I made, pretty basic. Just to give people an idea.

Thanks for the vids guys! I was thinking about picking up a B5M but the 22 3.0 looks like it has all the right parts in all the right places as far as I'm concerned.

Nick,

I know your history with mid motor and what your style is and I believe that this is the car you should get. I am very much a mechanical design oriented person and from studying what Losi does vs the others, I prefer their suspension geometry. At least I did on the 2.0. I haven't seen a 3.0 yet.

So Frank, what upgrades from our 2.0's should we keep and carry over? I want to make sure I pull all aluminum upgrades off of my 2.0 so that I don't end up re-buying them.

For instance:

Aluminum Front Camber
Aluminum Servo Mounts
Aluminum battery holder
STD Rear Alum Hex

Things I assume I will be parting with:

Rear Aluminum MM Camber Block
Rocket RC brass anti-squat block
30deg Aluminum front pivot??
JC front axle conversion

I think your list will look something like this:

Things you can keep:
Aluminum Front Camber
STD Rear Alum Hex
30deg Aluminum front pivot??
JC front axle conversion (to use your old 10mm hex wheels)

Things you lose:
Rear Aluminum MM Camber Block
Rocket RC brass anti-squat block
Aluminum battery holder (?)
Aluminum Servo Mounts (Frank confirmed the old ones don't work with the new car).

The servo mounts - no, they are different.
The Battery mount don't think so. whole new battery brace system.

Suggest you review the video on TLR. It explains the new updates and what is different.

Frank did post a view pages back, whats needed to convert a 2.0 to an 3.0, so you can see, which parts are interchangeable...

In between:
JC front axle conversion - You can use this as long as you can get the 10mm hex wheels, which will run out sometime next year.

I've been thinking this over (ever since Nov. 5, lol), and decided the right thing to do is get both!

You can't do that, you must choose a side. TLR or AE army. Lol
