Cub86 posted the question: Hi. I'm struggling to understand the lay down situation. I run on high bite damp smooth clay and think the conversation would help on my surface but from what I'm reading I need to buy the lay down kit tlr338004. And the dirt gear case tlr332063. But do I really need both from what I've read the dirt case is 1-2mm higher anyway and u don't use the +3mm hubs or the front pivot hrc or Hrc mod. So is the dirt lay down kit tlr332063 is all that's needed to get me a lay down set up that's suited for clay With the components and car I already have. And if I only get the dirt case is there any problems that will need to be addressed IE.. bone plunge . I do know I'll need 1mm spacers on the waterfall to clear the battery. Thanks guys really trying to get my head around this.

Franks response:
Laydown Conversion will work great by itself. You run the aluminum +3mm hubs, the diff is +3.5mm, and you run the HRC front setup. Just follow a setup sheet from tlracing.com (Frank Root).

Dirt Tranny has the diff at the same height as the standard tranny case, and works with the standard plastic hubs. Both are +/- 0mm from stock. When you run this, no need to run the HRC front mod either.

I've found the stock laydown conversion parts to work great for most tracks. The dirt tranny is a great tuning option, but definitely not 'required'.

K.King
Something I made, pretty basic. Just to give people an idea.

is the 3.0 night and day better than the the 1.0? i am really interested in the 1.0 since it can be a rear motor and i think i could get it relatively inexpensively
This weekend was my first run with the 3.0. WOW!
I thought my 22T 2.0 was my favorite, not any more. I still have my 22 2.0 and my son and it took the cars out for a shake down. I drove the 2.0 first made sure it was setup and working first, then I drove my ST (absolutely love this thing). Then I drove the 3.0, OMG, what a difference! It was on rails compared to the 2.0. After driving the 3.0 the 2.0 it felt as though I was fighting to keep the car under control (even though it felt good before).

Now with the 3.0 I can concentrate on the track and not watching the car to see if its about to break loose. Jumps and landings!! The 2.0 on certain awkward jumps I had to make sure I was setup correctly, the 3.0 didn't matter a simple punch and the car just flew over and landed perfect. I thought I would keep my 2.0 for mod and just run the 3.0 in stock. I don't think I can go back to the 2.0 ever again. The 2.0 constantly needed tweaking to make it perform, not the 3.0

The ST 2.0 really made driving and racing fun, but the 3.0 just makes me giddy

The 3.0 is actually first buggy but like you, I do have a 22T 2.0 that I very much enjoy driving. Like the truck, I've found that the 3.0 is very forgiving and stable even when pushed to the edge. I'm a middle-of-the-pack guy so I enlist the help of marshals more often then some. In general, those instances are the result of unpolished driving rather than a car that's difficult to drive.

Default Steering

So loving my 3.0 but wish I could get some better stearing, running kit set up with 1.6 35wt red coil front, 1.7 32wt yellow rear, battery 9mil forward. Car has a ton of push and feels like it doesn't turn as sharp as my 2.0 did, almost like the travel is limited, any thoughts? Thanks

I did check this but I will check again and make sure the arrows are def facing the correct way. I did check this once though. I have also heard of other people having this issue earlier in the thread but it doesn't really specify what he did.

Thank you for the help. I will post back.

Yeah I'm familiar with this from my 22SCT 2.0. But in this case the hubs weren't even attached.

If anyone else has experienced this and has found a good method for maybe shaving a spot on the arm without taking too much off, please let me know. Thanks.

I have it Chris. Every year when I see him, I get his most recent setup sheets. This time I got one for the 22 3.0 and one for the 22-4. He said his setup was about the same as his Reedy race setup which is already posted. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll try to email you my copy. Dustin's a great driver and I'm so happy that he remembers me every year when I see him.

I'm running Frank Root's Reedy race setup. Shocks are setup with front, 1.6 pistons 32.5wt oil w/ white AE springs, rear, 1.7 pistons, 35wt oil w/ AE green springs and running the long VLA option on the front arms. You can try this shock setup with either the short arm or long arm to see which one works best for you. Look on TLR's website to get the complete setup, Frank Root Reedy race.

Tires? When a car is so far off balance, it is often the tires.

I'd try Dustin's full Reedy Race setup if you're confident the tires are correct. http://www.tlracing.com/ProdInfo/Fil...2016-01-24.pdf

Would it be 'wrong' to use drag brake to help the car turn?
