Cub86 posted the question: Hi. I'm struggling to understand the lay down situation. I run on high bite damp smooth clay and think the conversation would help on my surface but from what I'm reading I need to buy the lay down kit tlr338004. And the dirt gear case tlr332063. But do I really need both from what I've read the dirt case is 1-2mm higher anyway and u don't use the +3mm hubs or the front pivot hrc or Hrc mod. So is the dirt lay down kit tlr332063 is all that's needed to get me a lay down set up that's suited for clay With the components and car I already have. And if I only get the dirt case is there any problems that will need to be addressed IE.. bone plunge . I do know I'll need 1mm spacers on the waterfall to clear the battery. Thanks guys really trying to get my head around this.

Franks response:
Laydown Conversion will work great by itself. You run the aluminum +3mm hubs, the diff is +3.5mm, and you run the HRC front setup. Just follow a setup sheet from tlracing.com (Frank Root).

Dirt Tranny has the diff at the same height as the standard tranny case, and works with the standard plastic hubs. Both are +/- 0mm from stock. When you run this, no need to run the HRC front mod either.

I've found the stock laydown conversion parts to work great for most tracks. The dirt tranny is a great tuning option, but definitely not 'required'.

Something I made, pretty basic. Just to give people an idea.

What effect does does changing the scrub give you when you space the axle out?

EFFECTS OF TRACK-WIDTH ADJUSTMENT
FRONT TRACK-WIDTH
Wider
• Decreases front grip
• Increases understeer
• Slower steering response
• Use to avoid traction rolling
Narrower
• Increases front grip
• Decreases understeer
• Faster steering response

Tried long VLA setting last night during practice for our big carpet race today. I like it. A lot. Felt it let me carry more corner speed, took a little twitch out of the car, and made it more forgiving on landings. I've had a problem with the car hitting these carpet-covered plywood ramps and landing on carpet-covered concrete: if I was less than perfectly square and came down with one front tire barely landing before the other, I'd get bucked or even flip. I can improve it by raising ride height, but then I fight traction rolling. Well, long VLA seems to have been the missing piece to that puzzle.

I found the old 2.0 was terrible for this but the new 3.0 is so much more forgiving. I posted my setup a couple pages back and with that setup I can really push through the corner jumps and it just deals with it!

Yeah, all the guys running 2.0 rigs have very quickly become jealous. They have a horrible time with the harsh landings, especially when they have the ride height slammed to sub-20 mm. With the HRC pivots front and back, I'm at 21 mm front and 22 mm rear. I can't go lower because of the springs I'm running (Kyosho gold in the rear). 22 mm is the lowest I can go, but with the HRC bits I'm fine. Really considering the new carpet conversion though.

Does anyone make a wing mount for the 3.0 for screw in button mounts instead of the body clip style ?
The stock mount doesn't have enough underneath to drill and tap

I see TLR just released 67mm CVA driveshafts for the 3.0. Does anyone know what length the stock ones are?

I used the stock wing mounts with Exotek buttons and just drilled and threaded in the new screws. Haven't had any issue with them coming out, and if they do ill either replace it or go to a longer screw with a nut.

The stock driveshafts are 66mm. The 67mm driveshafts push the pin 1mm further into the outdrives and eliminate any possibility of the driveshafts popping out of the outdrives.
